The Youth Ministry Coordinator provides Christian, non-denominational youth ministry services in support of the Religious Ministries Department at Marine Corps Base Hawaii (MCBH). This part-time, non-personal services contract position supports school-aged youth by planning, coordinating, and delivering structured youth ministry programs, volunteer activities, and religious education. The role emphasizes program development, volunteer management, and collaboration with chapel staff to meet the spiritual and developmental needs of youth in the MCBH community.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

The Youth Ministry Coordinator will:

Youth Ministry Program Development & Delivery

  • Establish, implement, and maintain a comprehensive Christian non-denominational youth ministry program supporting school-aged youth at MCBH.
  • Plan, coordinate, and conduct weekly youth ministry activities in alignment with the chapel’s Religious Ministries Program.
  • Deliver and support major youth programs, including:
    • AWANA (Approved Workmen Are Not Ashamed)
    • Vacation Bible School (VBS)
    • Sunday Children’s Church
    • Holiday and special events

Volunteer Recruitment, Training, and Oversight

  • Recruit, train, mentor, and supervise adult volunteers on a weekly basis.
  • Ensure all volunteers meet chapel requirements, complete background checks, and follow established procedures approved by the Command Chaplain.
  • Maintain an accurate and current volunteer roster, including contact information, affiliation, training records, and hours volunteered.

Administration, Planning, and Reporting

  • Forecast annual ministry resource and budget needs for youth programs.
  • Prepare and submit required paperwork for facility usage, supplies, curriculum, and audiovisual support.
  • Maintain records of supplies, materials, attendance, and program participation.
  • Provide timely monthly and annual reports in accordance with PWS requirements.

Coordination, Communication, and Promotion

  • Coordinate youth ministry activities with chapel staff, volunteers, parents, and other base organizations to avoid scheduling conflicts.
  • Draft and coordinate advertising and promotional materials (e.g., bulletins, flyers, announcements, articles) for youth programs and events.
  • Maintain communication through parent meetings, chapel councils, and Command Chaplain staff meetings.

Education and/or Experience

Required:

  • Letter of recommendation from a Protestant military chaplain or senior pastor confirming active participation in a Protestant Christian community.
  • Demonstrated experience supporting or leading Christian youth ministry programs.
  • Knowledge of Protestant Christian tenets and the ability to minister to children and youth in a pluralistic military environment.
  • Ability to coordinate volunteers, manage schedules, and communicate effectively with staff and families.

Preferred Skills:

  • Degree or coursework in ministry, religious education, education, counseling, or a related field.
  • Prior experience working with youth in a military, chapel, or faith-based setting.
  • Strong organizational, planning, and interpersonal skills.

Work Environment & Schedule

  • Part-time position averaging 15 hours per week, for 52 weeks per year.
  • Schedule coordinated with the Senior Chaplain upon contract award.
  • Primary place of performance is the MCBH Chapel, with activities conducted in chapel-approved facilities on base.
  • Work is primarily performed in an office and classroom/program setting

Security, Eligibility, and Compliance Requirements

  • Must meet all Marine Corps Base Hawaii security and access requirements.
  • U.S. citizenship or verified U.S. permanent residency required (I-551).
  • Must successfully complete background checks, installation access screening, and E-Verify requirements.
  • Compliance with DoD, Navy, and Marine Corps security, safety, and conduct policies is mandatory.
