Summary
The Workshop Assistant is a supporting member of the Manufacturing/Repair team. Duties of this role are to ensure all supporting jobs are completed timely to ensure smooth flow of workload through the relevant shops.
Working with Operations Manager and Senior Shopfloor staff, the Workshop Assistant will also contribute to process improvements within the area as well as any QHSE initiatives.

Responsibilities
- Complete Shot Peening and Bead Blasting as requested
- Complete Phosphating Process as required
- Gather up excess steel shots from ground around shot peening area and filter through and save usable shot only
- General housekeeping duties including washing shop floors down following sweeping up of metal chips. Also, Yard cleaning
- Workshop Canteen and ensuring storage of items is controlled e.g. Water/Tea bags etc. Where stocks are low, raising this with Purchasing to raise PO
- Attending to any spills
- Assist with Shipping/Storage preparation of Customer Parts
- Assist with Material Movement of parts where requested – (where have FLT Licence)
- Assist with Inventory/Consumable/Customer Stock Counting where requested
- Ensure proper use and maintenance of equipment and materials for which the role has responsibility
- Fully embrace the Quality & HSE management systems.
- Participate in all HSE programs, in particular; STOP Intervention, HSE Observations, Accident/Incident Reporting, HSE Auditing & good housekeeping practices
- Ensure trace is not lost on the job and that colour coding is adhered to at all times.
- Ensure part is protected and secured e.g. on pallet or trolley when stationary or being moved
- Support our continual improvement programmes, recommend and introduce process improvements & cost savings.
- Ensure work areas are kept clean and hazards are minimised at all times.
- Attend and participate in all training provided by Company and to commit to all Management System changes approved by Management Team.
- Immediately stop the job, where any defect/process failure/machine malfunction etc. is seen and report to Line Supervisor.
- Good School Education
- Forklift Truck License preferable
- Good communication skills including active listening, teamwork skills.
- Ability to work with minimal supervision.
- Product technical knowledge to support quality planning and inspection.
- Able to adapt to changing demands / deadlines.
- Team-work communication skills to ensure good communication handover.
- Analysis skills to identify areas of improvement.
- Able to take direction and complete assigned tasks timely
- Good understanding and attitude towards HSE systems in the workplace.
- Ability to work unsupervised – and adapt to varying shift patterns.
