Join our innovative engineering team as a Welding Engineer where you will develop and sustain advanced welding and direct energy deposition processes. In this role, you will be responsible for overseeing technology advancements, managing process qualifications, and maintaining third-party accreditations. This position requires a proactive approach to on-the-floor shop support and problem-solving, ensuring high standards of quality and technological excellence in welding operations. Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Develop and manage the welding program, collaborating with quality control teams to achieve certifications such as AWS and ASME.
- Provide hands-on support to the floor welders, assisting with the execution of sophisticated welding processes.
- Coordinate with non-destructive testing teams to maintain a robust weld inspection program.
- Create and implement detailed manufacturing procedures specific to welding and additive manufacturing, ensuring stringent execution standards.
- Produce and revise customer-facing work procedures for both new and refurbished products.
- Analyze process and welder qualification samples in partnership with the materials lab, optimize practices to ensure consistent quality.
- Interpret and enforce industry and client specifications across production processes.
- Educate both office and shop staff on welding principles and safety practices.
- Utilize a scientific approach to troubleshoot and resolve welding problems efficiently.
- Conduct failure analysis, determining the root causes of internal and external rejects and implementing corrective actions.
- Engage in RD projects that aim to enhance processes and develop new products, collaborating with multiple functional teams.
- Act as a subject matter expert in welding and additive manufacturing technologies through continuous industry research.
- Perform supplier evaluation and oversight when necessary and represent the company in professional organizations.
Minimum Position Qualifications:
- Bachelor of Science Degree in Weld Engineering, Metallurgical Engineering, or Material Science, or equivalent industry experience.
- At least 1-3 years' experience in weld engineering or related fields in additive manufacturing research.
- Proven track record of developing and maintaining certified weld programs.
- Strong grasp of physical metallurgy principles as they apply to welding, metalworking, and heat treatment.
- Exceptional communication skills with the ability to convey complex concepts effectively.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with welding automation and robotics.
- Knowledge in various additive manufacturing processes including Direct Energy Deposition (Wire or Powder), Friction Stir Welding, and Electron Beam Welding.
- Certification as an AWS Certified Weld Inspector.
Skills:
- Advanced skills in Weld Engineering and Physical Metallurgy.
- Proficiency in Heat treatment Principles, Mechanical Testing, and Microstructural Interpretation.
- Capability in performing Non-Destructive Evaluation (NDE) and thorough Failure Analysis.
- Strong technical documentation skills, ability to write clear and effective procedures and reports.
- Excellent problem-solving skills using a scientific approach for troubleshooting.
