Vice President of Operations – Civil & Environmental Engineering
Location: Connecticut Hybrid Schedule

About the Opportunity:
We’re working with a 20-person civil engineering firm recognized for its work in sustainable infrastructure and climate resilience. With a client roster spanning public agencies and municipal utilities, this firm delivers design, planning, and engineering services that shape more adaptive communities.

This is a new executive leadership role. The CEO—an accomplished engineer and industry thought leader—is seeking a strategic operational partner to lead internal operations and team development, while she focuses on external growth, client relationships, and long-term strategy.

Why This Role Stands Out:

  • Backlog measured in years – This firm turns down work daily due to demand.

  • No timesheets over 40 hours/week – Leadership enforces work-life balance as a strategic advantage.

  • Team of sharp, curious engineers – You’ll mentor early-career talent driven by mission and impact.

  • Culturally agile and future-focused – The firm embraces innovation, continuous learning, and adaptation.

What You’ll Do:

  • Oversee day-to-day operations, resource planning, and project delivery.

  • Serve as a mentor and coach for a team of early-career and mid-level engineers.

  • Collaborate with the CEO on strategy, organizational growth, and business health metrics.

  • Implement systems and processes to support scale and efficiency.

  • Represent the firm in key internal meetings; occasional support in client-facing roles as needed.

  • Foster a culture of accountability, curiosity, and resilience.

What We’re Looking For:

  • 15+ years of experience in consulting engineering, ideally in civil, environmental, or water/wastewater infrastructure.

  • Prior experience leading teams or business units; strong mentoring capabilities.

  • Demonstrated expertise in operational leadership, including project, financial, and personnel management.

  • PE license strongly preferred.

  • Deep familiarity with public infrastructure and municipal project environments.

  • Strong alignment with a culture that values balance, integrity, learning, and innovation.

Work Environment:

  • Hybrid schedule with flexible in-office expectations.

  • Headquarters in Connecticut.

  • Supportive, people-first culture that emphasizes both professional growth and personal well-being.
