Duties & Responsibilities:
- In collaboration with senior leadership, refine and execute the overall strategy of the medical groups and strengthen/align the business and clinical objectives across the continuum, positioning the health system and medical groups.
- Collaborate with leaders across El Camino Health to align operational systems and processes across the broader enterprise.
- Maintain high employee engagement and positive relationships with employees and management staff to enhance productivity and the quality of work life in the organization. Lead efforts to improve the work environment and optimal caregiver engagement. Empower employees at all levels to be innovative and action-oriented while advancing a culture of accountability with clearly established lines of authority and decision-making.
- Maintain positive relationships and a culture of trust between administration and providers.
- Integrate providers into decision-making processes and ensure that their needs are met.
- Demonstrate visibility with the providers and the ability to facilitate smooth communication through operational transparency.
- In collaboration with other leaders, ensure that ECHMN is in compliance with all regulatory requirements.
- Operate ambulatory clinics within ECHMN to ensure financial strength, reviewing results on an ongoing basis and taking corrective action to achieve the annual budget. Responsible for setting and meeting budgetary targets and strategies to improve financial performance of the group/ health system and cost reduction/value improvement efforts.
- Bachelor’s degree in Healthcare Administration, Business Administration, or related field.
- MHA or MBA is highly desirable.
- A minimum of 10 years’ experience in progressive leadership roles in a multi-specialty group practice, or medical foundation within an integrated health system. Experience working collaboratively with community-based providers is required.
- Knowledge and experience with Lean/Six Sigma in a physician practice setting.
- Demonstrated leadership accomplishments in the overall improvement of financial and ambulatory operational performance of a healthcare organization.
- Strong business acumen, quality, and metrics orientation. Financially astute and highly experienced in using, developing and implementing benchmarks and other tools that improve operating, financial and service performance.
- Financial management and business development, as well as P&L experience managing multi-site, multi-specialty medical groups.
- Successful track record of redesigning practice management systems and aligning incentives that have diminished silos and helped improve the performance across clinical specialties.
- Experience with IT systems; electronic health records (EHR) and computerized physician order entry (CPOE) systems. EPIC EHR experience highly preferred. Ability to assist the health system in making key IT-related decisions impacting physician practices.
- Understanding of Physician Practice law and Stark laws.

- Create infrastructure to manage and integrate multi-specialty group operations. Standardize organizational structure, systems, and processes. Select and develop leaders who will meet the organization’s goals and objectives. Responsible for the effective selection, training, disciplining, terminating, and performance improvement education for identified management and administrative staff.
- Create a culture of accountability based on business analytics to include metrics and dashboards developed collaboratively with the Medical Groups’ Leadership Team.
- Lead evaluation of new opportunities to develop programs and services that improve the organization’s market position, financial performance, and meet community needs.
- Provide leadership and oversight during due diligence and onboarding of new practices and clinic sites.
- In collaboration with VP of Quality, responsible for quality improvement activities, which promote employee/physician involvement in decision-making on work organization and patient care delivery. Sustain an environment of continuous quality improvement, including the identification of concrete performance measures across clinical, service, financial, operational, management, and patient satisfaction.
- Improve and hardwire responsive and proactive practice operations, policies, and processes while identifying opportunities to standardize clinical operations and integration across the network.
- Drive process improvements to deliver consistent and standardized daily practice operations designed to improve clinical services, outcomes, patient throughput, and patient safety. Drive performance improvement efforts through a Lean Management System. Teach and coach leaders and front-line staff in regards to the application of Lean and improvement principles and Lean Management System as a business strategy to resolve issues. Lead a Lean performance system that is metrics driven and instilled with visual walls, team huddles, and Active Daily management across the organization.
- Lead improvement efforts; ensure implementation runs smoothly and that gains are sustained and measured through data analysis and ongoing measurement of actionable performance data.
- Prepare the medical groups for success under both fee for service and value-based care.
- Manage the network integrity of the providers of system referrals to achieve system growth objectives.
- Establish operational systems and processes that support and incorporate telehealth and new service offerings.
- Lead centralized support functions including, but not limited to, call center, telehealth operations, and referral center.
- Work closely on physician manpower plan to continuously identify recruitment opportunities and needs.
- Maintain confidentiality of records, patient, employee, or physician group/clinic information at all times. Ensure all information and conversations regarding patients are secured from general public access.
Education:
- Bachelor’s degree in Healthcare Administration, Business Administration, or related field.
- An MHA or MBA is highly desirable.
- A minimum of 10 years’ experience in progressive leadership roles in a multi-specialty group practice or medical foundation within an integrated health system. Experience working collaboratively with community-based providers is required.
