Position Responsibilities:
Reporting to the Senior Vice President of Carrier Procurement of the Freight Management Division of a billion-dollar supply chain entity with rapidly growing capabilities in transportation, warehouse and distribution center support, yard management, last mile delivery, supply chain analytics/ optimization, and more. One of the fastest growing companies in Chicago.
The Vice President of Carrier Sales is responsible for strategic and tactical direction, development, and growth of the carrier sales teams, securing capacity to provide customers with the most efficient mode of transportation. Will oversee the growth and development of the carrier network while delivering high service levels and satisfactory purchasing performance. Will lead the carrier sales teams to achieve individual, team, departmental, and company goals. Will establish and manage carrier relations and development activities that support the execution of strategies and action plans to enable the profitable growth of the business unit. Will manage the partner carrier network and develop strategies to ensure the partner carrier network meets customers’ requirements. Will lead the carrier sales team, securing capacity to provide customers with the most efficient mode of transportation for their products, on time and intact. Will manage the teams to execute daily functions while continuing to establish and manage relationships to expand capacity opportunities. Will analyze and assess lane/market performance to identify strengths and weaknesses of provider coverage and oversee plans of action to drive profitability and service improvements. Will work in coordination with other company resources, develop the strategic and tactical direction for the branch, establish departmental KPIs, and establish management processes. Background Required:
  • Progressive experience in Carrier Sales capacity within Freight Brokerage (6+ years)
  • Management – hire, train, coach mentor (4+ years)
  • Large team management – headcount 50 +
  • Service Offering (i.e. Truckload, LTL, Dry Van, Reefer, Intermodal)
  • Strong Negotiation Ability (Carrier, Customer, Margin Integrity)
  • Establish and manage Carrier Portal ensuring repeat capacity
  • Create a carrier following utilizing historical data and carrier management techniques.
  • Carrier Procurement KPI’s (i.e. load count, revenue, margin, load count, call logs)
  • Develop and execute business plan strategies
  • Computer literate (Microsoft Suite: Power Point, Word, Excel)
  • Residence: Chicago, IL
