Position Responsibilities:
Reporting to the President of a regional transportation provider.
The Vice President, Safety develops, organizes, and manages the operations and activities of a comprehensive driver safety program. Creates and implements changes to driver training program, methods, and procedures to meet operational needs. Formulates, recommends, and implements changes to department policies or procedures to ensure integrity of the driver training program and for the continued development of our drivers. Provides resources to continually to promote a culture of safety within the organization. Identifies accident and safety concerns that directly impact company safety. Determines how to incorporate additional training and safety awareness into the driver training program. Develops and implements driver counseling sessions to improve driver safety performance and correct performance issues inconsistent with policies, procedures, or the direction of the department. Recommends disciplinary action up to and including immediate termination of employment. Ensures information being presented to drivers is compliant with federal and state regulations. Confirms compliance with federal regulations governing industry. Reviews pending and upcoming changes to FMCSA regulations to ensure company is prepared for future compliance requirements. Reviews driver orientation curriculum and implements changes to address deficiencies. Creates and delivers company programs that ensure a safe workplace. Provides regular feedback and reporting on the company’s safety initiatives and performance results. Reviews driver hiring criteria with business leaders. Tracks and analyzes training statistics regularly. Reviews safety events to identify preventability and training gaps. Performs statistical analysis of accidents and workplace injuries. Identifies trends and potential causal factors. Implements a process for regular reporting to business leaders of findings and results. Ensures drivers are trained on required CMV inspections. Ensures drivers are thoroughly trained on close quarter maneuvering and backing principles. Ensures drivers receive training on load securement. Develops material for driver quarterly safety classes. Inspects work sites and conducts safety audits at each terminal and discusses findings with business leaders.
