The VP of Business Development & Marketing will be responsible for cross-functional collaboration to develop and execute a growth strategy based on Sales effectiveness, profitability, and a balanced portfolio. This role is accountable for 1) developing and implementing strategy to drive sales and overall profitability, and 2) delivering strategic marketing programs. Although this position will not have direct selling responsibility, it is heavily weighted in the development and successful execution of Sales strategy, competitive analyses, creating and maintaining reporting dashboards, and administration of the overall Sales and Marketing functions.

This critical position will act as a communication conduit between internal cross-functional teams and field sales to deliver on strategy tactics, sales and leadership training and development, profitability review and improvement programs, and marketing initiatives.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Forge and sustain professional relationships grounded in impeccable character and integrity
  • Analyze and assimilate extensive market data/intelligence and incorporate findings to develop strategies in new and emerging market initiatives; strong competitive data gathering and analysis ability
  • Identify and effectively communicate strategic market gaps, needs, and opportunities
  • Effectively utilize industry contacts to accelerate effective account mapping and networking
  • Ensure sustainability of account relationships
  • Perform economic analyses of new opportunities to facilitate executive management review and decision-making
  • Collaborates with legal team to prepare terms, non-disclosure agreements, and contracts with regard to external deals
  • Develop annual forecasts and long-term budgets for revenue and expenses; establish scorecard measures and regularly monitor progress against KPI’s; develop contingency plans as needed
  • Ensure direct reports are managing a healthy and sustainable sales pipeline; identify and develop new market opportunities
  • Develop and drive pricing strategies; ensure proposals include strong margin protection; re-negotiate unfavorable contract terms to reflect competitive advantages and profitability
  • Client interfacing at Sr Executive & technical levels
  • Pioneer client identification efforts and create a compelling value proposition with robust, engaging company presentations and client visits
  • Attend & give presentations at conferences; tradeshows; industry forums; and internal meetings
  • Lead the Market research & development strategies. Including but not limited to product; placement; price; positioning; and brand messaging
  • Continuously lead, develop, coach, and encourage Sales and Marketing team members
  • Lead contract negotiations and coordinate with all relevant functional teams
  • Utilize analytical methodologies to ensure value propositions, positioning, and pricing based on empirical data from clients, competitors, and industry; develop all elements of marketing execution including sales presentations, collateral, external communications (client and press releases), and promotions
  • Lead Sales and Marketing teams to align brand strategy; plan, schedule and drive alignment with business and sales strategies

JOB REQUIREMENTS:

  • § Bachelor’s degree in a related Life Sciences area; Master’s and Ph.D. in a related field will receive preference
  • § 10 + years similar Biotech/CDMO Sales experience
  • § Extensive knowledge in large molecule mammalian and microbial proteins a must
  • § 6 + years Sales team Management experience, leading 6+ direct reports
  • § Ability to read, analyze, and interpret complex documents (ie, scientific, financial, technical)
  • § Intermediate knowledge/experience of Excel and other MS Office applications, advanced knowledge of Powerpoint is preferred
  • § Successful integration with Sr Executive team, BD and Marketing teams
  • § In-depth working experience with CRM to include reporting, critical analysis and use of database capabilities, extracting pertinent data to create and maintain dashboards (Salesforce.com preferred)
  • § Ability to respond effectively to the most sensitive inquiries or complaints
  • § Ability to deliver effective, compelling, and persuasive presentations on complex topics to Sr Executive/Management, public groups, and/or boards of directors
  • § Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference
  • § Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations
  • § Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions
  • § Ability to interpret an extensive variety of scientific-based proposals, scopes of work, technical instructions and address abstract and concrete variables

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is regularly required to sit, talk, or hear. The employee is frequently required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel. The employee is occasionally required to stand and walk. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 10 pounds.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works in a home office environment. Employee will be required to be on-site at the Corporate office 50% of the time, engaging with Sr Team peers and clients. Will frequently be required to travel by airplane and automobile. Travel is estimated at 60% - 70%. The work environment is fast-paced and demanding. Off-shift, weekend and after-hours work may be required as needed.
