Position Title: Vehicle Test Engineer – Proving Grounds
Location: Central, CA
Basic Purpose and Objective
The Track Test Engineer is primarily responsible for conducting tests on vehicles to assess their performance and safety under various conditions.
Specific Duties and Responsibilities:
- Conducts track tests on vehicles to assess their performance including precision driving maneuvers, and the operation of various specialized track equipment such as steering robots, braking robots, robotic platforms, soft targets, etc.
- Drives vehicles in various stages of production and development according to strict speed and position tolerances.
- Checking and troubleshooting instrumentation and data collection systems.
- Understands requirements of existing test procedures and protocols.
- Understands and complies with testing procedures and ensures the quality of the test output.
- Gathers data on vehicle dynamics, such as acceleration, braking, cornering, and stability.
- Analyzes test data to identify areas of improvement and to ensure vehicles meet safety and performance standards.
- Interfaces with clients and internal team members.
- Coordinate with supervisor for any procedural questions or non-conforming test results.
- Operates and maintains various test equipment which may include robotic vehicle controllers, computers, computer guided targets, etc.
- May be involved with the design, fabrication, and implementation of specialized test equipment.
- Ensures that all tests comply with industry safety regulations and standards.
Education and Experience Required:
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering or related field and/or 3 years of relevant work experience.
- Must have working knowledge of ADAS test procedures and test equipment such as AB Dynamics GST or 4Active systems pedestrian targets.
- Ability to read and understand high level test requirements.
- Maintain client confidentiality.
- Ability to troubleshoot interconnected mechanical, electronic, and guidance systems.
- Basic vehicle maintenance knowledge – jump starting vehicles, changing tires, etc.
- Working knowledge of physics, electronics, dynamics, mechanical design and assembly, data protocols such as CAN, ethernet, etc.
- Experience with MATLAB or other coding language.
- Experience with MS Office products including Excel and Word.
