Position Responsibilities: Reporting to the President of a regional truckload carrier.

The VP of Operations oversees the general management and truckload operations including P&L. Accountable for driving profitability leading a team of site managers and support personnel. Collaborates with executive team to develop and implement company objectives and performance targets related to long- and short-term strategies. Strategic partner with company leadership to drive and attain objectives that are in alignment with established company vision, mission and values. Coordinates operations with sales, safety, maintenance, driver recruiting & retention, information technology, finance & accounting. Participates in development of the overall strategic direction. Oversees and capable of planning freight and directs route planning to prevent deadhead and maximize fuel and toll use across all divisions. Manages business to meet or surpass all budgets and business plans, supporting P&L. Creates operational and sales forecasts and budgets. Mentors employees to meet competitive business requirements and support succession planning. Engages in continuous improvement of business processes in partnership with team members and management.

Background Required:
  • Transportation operational management
  • Fleet Management, Customer Service, Load planning and extended coverage
  • Multi-facility account oversight including implementation and management of off-site processes and support staff
  • Fleet size (over 100 power units)
  • P&L Responsibility
  • Establishing standard operating procedures, KPI’s and metrics
  • Safety, CSA, DOT, OSHA, FMCSA
  • Computer Literate: Microsoft suite (i.e. Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook)
  • Residence: Toledo, OH (relocation assistance)

Background Preferred (but not required):
  • Dedicated Contract Carriage, On-Site Management
  • Industry Related Software (i.e. McLeod, TMW)
  • Experience growing a carrier into larger entity (sales growth, target market penetration, account management)
  • Identification of performance obstacles and cost reduction opportunities
  • Maintenance acumen
  • Education: Bachelor’s degree (i.e. Supply Chain, Logistics or Transportation)

  • Excellent communications (written, oral and presentation)
  • Collaborates with all levels (i.e. drivers, managers, executives)
  • Humility to admit mistakes and open to different approaches and guidance from leadership
  • Strategic long-term thinking as well as efficient daily task execution.
