Position Summary: The VP of Print Production Operations is responsible for the strategic and tactical leadership of the entire production process. They oversee and optimize all aspects of the print production process, manufacturing facilities, ensuring efficiency, cost-effectiveness, and high-quality output. This role involves strategic planning, team leadership, process improvement, vendor management, and compliance with industry standards. The VP will collaborate cross-functionally with internal teams, suppliers, and stakeholders to drive operational excellence, maintain a competitive edge in the direct mail industry. This is a 24-hour operation, therefore this position is instrumental in ensuring seamless, around-the-clock operations to meet business needs and client demands.
Essential Functions:
• Lead, mentor, and develop high-performing teams across all facilities, fostering a culture of accountability, efficiency, and innovation to ensure operational alignment.
• Develop and execute a print production strategy aligned with business objectives across all facilities.
• Oversee end-to-end print production operations, including prepress, digital printing, pressroom, bindery, and direct mail operations.
• Optimize workflows, implement best practices, and enforce strict quality control standards to ensure fast turnaround times and high-quality output.
• Monitor emerging print technologies, innovations, and industry trends to drive continuous improvement and maintain a competitive advantage.
• Build and maintain strong relationships with print providers, suppliers, and contractors to ensure cost-effective, high-quality materials across all locations.
• Develop and oversee the print production budget, optimizing costs, resource allocation, and waste reduction strategies to maximize profitability.
• Evaluate print provider performance and manage outsourced print production as necessary.
• Work cross-functionally with sales, marketing, project managers, distribution, and client services to ensure production aligns with business objectives, customer expectations, and quality standards.
• Provide technical expertise and guidance to support product development and innovation.
• Partner with HR to recruit, train, and retain top talent in print production and direct mail operations.
Required Skills / Experience:
• Bachelor’s degree in business administration or related field, or equivalent experience
• 10+ years in print production, including 5+ years in a senior leadership role overseeing multiple sites.
• Expertise in bindery, offset and digital presses, print technology, and direct mail operations.
• Strong knowledge of workflow automation, print management software, and industry best practices.
• Experience in budget management, cost control, and financial planning for multi-site operations.
• Proven leadership in managing teams, driving operational efficiency, and fostering continuous improvement.
• Ability to problem-solve and manage production challenges under tight deadlines.
• Expertise in change management, process optimization, and implementing efficiency strategies.
• Excellent communication skills for engaging teams, vendors, and stakeholders.
Preferred Education and Experience
• Green Belt Certification or military experience preferred
• Master’s degree in business administration or related field, or equivalent experience
