POSITION: Vice President of Engineering

LOCATION: Position will be located at the company headquarters in Austin, Texas. Ideally, they would like a candidate already living within commuting distance or flexible to relocate. The CEO is very big into culture. He believes life is too short to just work at home all the time, so it is important that everyone is in the office at least a couple times a week to see everyone and build team spirit. It helps everyone. Working remotely full time is an NOT an option.

COMPENSATION: Client is willing and able to put together the right package for the right person. Comp package will include a competitive base, bonus, meaningful equity and full benefits plan including 3 weeks PTO (in addition to holidays!) Plus, they have a nice work/life balance. Everyone is usually done working at the office by 5pm. Client would like to know what you want to make and what is important to you. Client wants to hire someone who is motivated and confident in their ability to be successful in this role.

MANAGEMENT STYLE: Position reports to the CEO. However, he wants his direct reports to understand that THEY are the boss! He has a keen understanding of what the industry wants and the market, but he needs someone to manage the implementation of those ideas. The new VP will be more like his partner than his subordinate. He is the boss that he wished he had! He believes most people are awesome! He is very collaborative. He encourages people to tell him what they think, their ideas and strategy. He is a hands-off kind of boss, but there to help you be successful.

COMMUNICATION STYLE: The CEO tries to shut it off on the weekends, but he is available if you need him. He believes in work/life balance. He is a family man, loves sports and believes it is important to be present. You can usually find him at one of his kids’ games or practice when he isn’t working. He believes that open and honest communication is essential. If there is a question or misunderstanding about anything, then he wants to be contacted ASAP. He doesn’t want people to hesitate to tell him their feelings, ideas, etc. He wants people to feel comfortable communication, so he is always open and transparent. He believes people can disagree and still be nice and respectful to each other so they can just figure things out together.


POSITION REQUIREMENTS:
  • Must have recent and significant experience in an engineering leadership role at a SaaS company with responsibility for software engineering, Q&A, security, dev ops, architecture, etc.

  • Must have a history of delivering products on time, holding people accountable and making sure everyone is carrying their weight.

  • Must be a great leader, manager, mentor and coach. Must be able to recruit first-rate talent and tightly coordinate their efforts. The new VP will inherit 2 front end, 2 back end, 2 full stack (front and back), 2 QA and 1 Dev Ops person. Need to hire another software developer and dev ops engineer asap.

  • Must be able to recruit and retain great talent. The new VP will be fully in charge of evaluating the current team and deciding who they want to keep and how they want to grow it. Need someone who can build and lead a world class engineering team. Prefer a candidate that can bring people on board with whom they have worked with previously. Must have someone who can win the hearts and minds of the developers, gaining their respect. This is an amazing team. They work well together, have a lot of fun and get along with each other.

  • Must enjoy leading and being part of a team. The new VP will work closely with an awesome VP of Product, Director of Ops, and Lead Software Engineer.

  • Must be someone who enjoys the entrepreneurial atmosphere of a small company but has been through the experience of scaling up an enterprise to significant organization size and revenues. Need someone who will be hands-on and can just roll up their sleeves to get the job done.

  • Must be able to put the processes in place so the company can grow 5x. Need to be able to trouble shoot and foresee what we need to do in the future.
