The Underwriter is required to review policy documents to ensure compliance with company guidelines (both underwriting and compliance) with an aim of assessing and classifying risk. He/She will be required to complete all necessary processes for counter proposals to be communicated to client/agent. Cross referencing of claims history for all new applicants.

1. Underwrite: POS, GROUP & New applications with Medical/Non-Medical requirements
• Approve within underwriting limits.
• Make recommendations for cases above limits.
• Request requirements.
• Refer to Manager/Senior or Medical Consultant.
• Refer to Manager/Supervisor or Chief Underwriter cases above limit for Approval.
• Liaise with Claims Department, Agency Services and other Insurance Companies.
2. Update Change Management System for each Application
3. Complete and submit workflow
4. Update cases to be filed Incomplete
ACADEMIC REQUIREMENTS:
• Five (5) G.C.E./ C.X.C. Subjects, Biology; Maths & English Compulsory
• A minimum of 5 years’ experience as a Life Underwriter
• LOMA Level 1 (Part 280 & 290); 2&3 and ACS or intention to complete within 1 Year.
• ALU Level 1 would be an asset.
INDUSTRY KNOWLEDGE:
• Knowledge of plans and benefits marketed by the company. This is particularly important in assessing the risk.
• Knowledge of insurance contracts. Job requires an interpretation of the type of policies issued as this will aid in assessment and classification of risk.
• Minimum of five (5) years’ experience in a Life Insurance Company. Industry knowledge will an asset in every function.
COMMUNICATION:
• Excellent communication skills. Job involves communicating with medical consultant, medical personnel, agency managers and agency staff.
