JOB DESCRIPTION:

The UX/UI Designer will be expected to design the overall functionality of the product, and ensure a great user experience, and iterate upon it in accordance with user-testing. The UX/UI Designer will be able to understand the business requirements and any technical limitations, as well as be responsible for conceiving and conducting user research, interviews and surveys, and translating them into sitemaps, user flows, customer journey maps, wireframes, and mockups. Responsibilities include gathering user requirements, designing graphic elements and building navigation components. The UX/UI Designer should have experience with design software and wireframe tools and have a portfolio of professional design projects that includes work with web/mobile applications. The ideal candidate should have an eye for clean and artful design, possess superior UI skills and be able to translate high-level requirements into interaction flows and artifacts, and transform them into beautiful, intuitive, and functional user interfaces. The position may be remote.

REPORTS TO: Director of R&D

QUALIFICATIONS & REQUIREMENTS:

BS/MS in Human-Computer Interaction, Interaction Design, Design, Computer Science or relevant field or related proven UX/UI Designer experience

Three or more years of UX/UI Designer experience

Expertise in standard UX/UI software such as Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop Sketch, Lucidchart, OmniGraffle, Axure, InVision, UXPin, Balsamiq, Framer, and the like is a must. Basic HTML5, CSS3, and JavaScript skills are a plus

Experience using UX design best practices to design solutions, and a deep understanding of mobile-first and responsive design

Solid grasp of user-centered design (UCD), planning and conducting user research, user testing, A/B testing, rapid prototyping, heuristic analysis, usability and accessibility concerns Ability to iterate designs and solutions efficiently and intelligently

Demonstrable UI design skills with sensitivity to user-system interaction

Solid experience in creating wireframes, storyboards, customer journeys, user flows, process flows and site maps, and visual displays

Experience working in an Agile/Scrum development process

Up to date with the latest UI trends, techniques, and technologies

Must pass a pre-employment background check

Must be able to perform the essential functions of the position with or without accommodation

Previous experience working in a LEAN environment is a plus

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

GENERAL

Collaborate with product management and engineering to define and implement innovative solutions for the product direction, visuals and experience

● In collaboration with stakeholders conduct user research and evaluate user feedback and requirements. Take a user-centered design approach and rapidly test and iterate your designs ● Establish and promote design guidelines, best practices, and standards

● Conceptualize original ideas that bring simplicity and user friendliness to complex design roadblocks. Illustrate design ideas using storyboards, process flows and sitemaps. ● Create original graphic designs (e.g., images, sketches, and tables) and GUI elements, like menus, tabs and widgets

● Conduct layout adjustments based on user feedback

● Create wireframes, storyboards, user flows, process flows and site maps to effectively communicate interaction and design ideas.

● Present and defend designs and key milestone deliverables to peers and executive level stakeholders

Execute all visual design stages from concept to final hand-off

● Build page navigation buttons and search fields

● Develop UI mockups and prototypes that clearly illustrate how sites function and look like

● Prepare and present rough drafts to internal teams and key stakeholders

● Identify and troubleshoot both design and UX problems (e.g., responsiveness)

TRAVEL: Rarely is it required save for relevant conference opportunities or work functions. Must be willing to travel if such opportunities arise.

May require some travel to select clients throughout California. Most often virtual meetings may be okay, but it may be necessary to visit an office and its many users to properly map a customer journey.
