Job Summary:

The Traveling Field Installation Technician requires excellent customer service skills, technical ability and travel. They will travel full time to any of the states we operate in. This role will work a minimum of two weeks “out of market” and will return home to work two weeks “in home market”. The position requires completing customer installations, service visits, on-site troubleshooting, and recovery of equipment. Work is performed on site at customer locations both with a physical aspect of installing Internet equipment, as well as a technical portion of updating databases.

Essential Functions:

  • Ability to travel.
  • Successfully complete and maintain the tower safety and rescue training program.
  • Climbing and working on communications towers, typically residential, for the purpose of installing, replacing, and repairing antenna systems equipment.
  • Perform site surveys for potential customers to evaluate serviceability.
  • Diagnose customer problems at service calls and restore functional service to existing customers.
  • Install new customers with Internet service based on technology available, which includes mounting equipment at or above roof height, running Cat5-E or Fiber Optic cable from outside to the customer’s desired location.
  • Configure routers and customer computers for access to Internet services.
  • Perform equipment upgrades for existing customers.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Skills:

  • Must be professional in dress, speech, and manner.
  • Must pass tower certification training program.
  • Must have a valid driver’s license with a safe/acceptable driving record in compliance with company policy.
  • Ability to work independently, using sound judgement principles.
  • Comfortable and recent experience working outdoors.
  • Must demonstrate accountability to set priorities, organize workload, handle multiple responsibilities, and meet deadlines.
  • Ability to work within a fast-paced, high-change environment while managing multiple interruptions and adjustments to priorities throughout the day.
  • Must demonstrate a desire to learn, supported with a love for technology.
  • Must pass a drug screening test and a criminal background check.
  • Must be able to use tools to install equipment.

Education and Experience:

  • High school diploma or GED equivalent required.

Work Environment/Hazards:

  • Working in outdoor elements such as cold, hot, precipitation and wind.
  • In proximity of heavy machinery and moving vehicles.
  • Moderate to high noise level.
  • Use of PPE.
  • Working in elevated places such as towers.

Physical Demands:

  • Frequently moving, transporting, positioning objects of at least 60 pounds or more
  • Ascending or descending ladders, stairs, scaffoldings, ramps, poles and the like, using feet and legs and/or hands and arms.
  • Must be able to climb roof tops of all types and to perform job duties from high places.
  • Must be able to pull own body weight plus equipment weight up roofs and vertical tower repeatedly.
  • Frequently required to stand, walk, stoop, sit, and climb ladders and communication towers and work in an elevated position.
  • Frequently required to use hand and power tools.
  • Must have the ability to climb extended heights upwards of 200 feet.
  • Employee weight and tools combined may not exceed 300-pound limit as specified by the manufacturer of safety equipment.

Working Hours/Days:

  • Irregular hours
  • Two weeks “in home market” and two weeks “out of home market”.
  • 40 hours minimum.
  • Overtime as needed (usually expected).
  • On Call as needed.

Travel Requirements:

  • 100% travel required
  • Overnight required during “out of home market” travel.
