Tooling Engineer

The Tooling Engineer will be responsible for developing tooling from order to delivery, working with the Plant Manager, Quality Manager, and the rest of the operations team.

Responsibilities

  • Design, simulate, sample and maintain foundry tooling (patterns, core boxes and fixtures/gages) to meet all customer requirements utilizing customer supplied part geometry and specifications.
  • Understanding of foundry processes including green sand molding and a basic understanding of ductile iron metallurgy.
  • Advanced knowledge of GD&T
  • Ability to manage a small team of hourly and salary employees in the technical field
  • Train and mentor engineers and technicians
  • Ability to network with customers on new design of parts to meet foundry and customer needs (design for manufacturability)
  • Develop detailed CAD layouts of new patterns and core boxes
  • Maintain and update customer-based web-portals to allow smooth data transition
  • Manage outside tooling vendors including quoting, project management and inspection of received tooling
  • Detailed knowledge of quoting castings
  • Assist with the layout/measurement of tooling and parts using CMM and 3D scanner
  • Willing to work “hands-on” when needed to assist foundry sampling programs

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering or related field
  • 3-5+ years foundry experience or similar heavy industrial environment
  • Supervisory experience preferred
  • Lean manufacturing or 6 Sigma experience preferred
  • Working knowledge of APQP and PPAP for automotive desired
