Position Summary - Hybrid Underwriter

The Hybrid Underwriter serves in a dual-capacity role, combining customer relationship development with underwriting responsibilities. This position promotes the organization’s products, services, and
underwriting solutions while assisting agencies, attorneys, lenders, and customers with title insurance underwriting and risk evaluation. The role supports business growth by strengthening customer
relationships, delivering responsive service, and applying underwriting guidelines to facilitate successful real estate transactions.

Working under the guidance of experienced sales and underwriting leaders, this role builds foundational knowledge in both disciplines while contributing to market expansion and sound underwriting practices.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and maintain relationships with assigned title agencies, attorneys, lenders, and other real estate professionals.
  • Promote title insurance products, underwriting expertise, technology solutions, and value-added services to new and existing customers.
  • Conduct sales calls, customer meetings, educational presentations, and training sessions to strengthen customer relationships and increase market share.
  • Review title searches and evaluate routine title insurance risks in accordance with established underwriting guidelines.
  • Identify title defects, legal issues, and underwriting concerns; communicate requirements to agency personnel, attorneys, buyers, sellers, and lenders.
  • Evaluate risk exposure and determine the acceptability of routine transactions within delegated underwriting authority.
  • Determine premiums, terms, and conditions using established rules, rates, and underwriting guidelines.
  • Collaborate with underwriting counsel and senior team members to resolve more complex title or legal issues.
  • Partner with internal operations, agency support, and underwriting teams to deliver exceptional customer experiences.
  • Maintain an active sales pipeline and document customer activities using CRM systems.
  • Participate in industry associations, networking events, educational seminars, and customer appreciation events.
  • Apply established procedures to perform routine assignments while exercising sound judgment in both customer service and underwriting decisions.
  • Analyze customer needs, transaction details, and business opportunities to support revenue growth and appropriate risk management.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by management.

Education
  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Finance, Real Estate, Legal Studies (required).
  • Equivalent combination of education and relevant experience may be considered.

Experience
  • Typically requires 0–2 years of experience in title insurance, real estate, underwriting, sales, customer service, banking, or a related industry.
  • Demonstrated ability to build professional relationships and communicate effectively with customers and business partners.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with interest in both sales and underwriting.
  • Ability to manage multiple responsibilities while delivering excellent customer service.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and CRM or business software preferred.
