Job Description

Technical Specialist Corporate Logistics

PURPOSE AND DESCRIPTION:

The Technical Specialist reports directly to the Logistics Manager and is expected to handle department costs and related reporting, maintain head count numbers, assist on special projects for all level of management, and provide leadership, development, and mentorship to Logistics employees.

This position is also expected to know and contribute with all facets of the Logistics Department including shipping, receiving, inventory control, warehouse maintenance, import, export, packaging, quality, safety, and continuous improvement initiatives.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Maintain weekly overtime requests and department head count
  • Understand how to apply LPH in each department area
  • Utilize historical data for trending of work
  • Report to Logistics Manager the hours and heads required
  • Logistics Leadership
  • Have experience and knowledge in all aspects of the Logistics department
  • Recommend / suggest actions in all areas to drive improvements
  • Assist with employee growth via training and benchmarking – associates, leads, supervisors
  • Maintain group performance measures
  • Understand department tool needs and ability to purchase
  • Ability to fill-in for Operations Manager as needed
  • Head special projects
  • Work with all levels of management to provide information required to support Corporate metrics
  • Continued education on the latest warehousing and transportation data
  • Ensure compliance to FAC Quality system
  • Regulate departmental procedures
  • Assist with internal and external audits
  • Order Quality
  • Track internal order quality metrics and update daily management grids
  • Track external order quality metrics via Customer Satisfaction Survey
  • Develop and/or ensure corrective actions are in place to satisfy customer expectations
  • Report results at bi-monthly Operations Staff and quarterly Corporate Staff meetings
  • ERP
  • Strong understanding of Logistics related ERP roles, sessions, and processes
  • Ability to train and coach others in using ERP system
  • Support ERP related projects and improvements as Logistics subject matter expert
  • Reliable, consistent attendance required.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

SKILLS/KNOWLEDGE

  • Detail-oriented and self-motivated
  • Must be able to identify opportunities for improvements and cost reductions
  • Good PC skills excel, word, and access preferred
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Skillful at having a vision and planning for it
  • Strong Customer Focus skills
  • ERP System Expertise
  • Ability to interact with all levels of an organization
  • Strong understanding of Logistics processes and needs

EXPERIENCE/EDUCATION

  • Bachelor degree in Supply Chain Management or Business-related discipline or equivalent, relevant experience
  • Minimum four years Warehouse Operations and/or Transportation Industry experience

PHYSICAL EFFORT AND DEXTERITY

  • Position involves desk work 50% of the time
  • Ability to lift 50 lb.
  • Ability to walk/stand for sustained periods of time

VISUAL ACUITY, HEARING, SPEAKING

Good visual acuity, hearing and speaking is required.
ENVIRONMENT AND SCHEDULING

  • Overtime as business needs require
  • Office environment with daily interaction in warehouse, shipping/receiving dock, manufacturing floor and off-site locations
