Technical Services Manager - Oregon

The Technical Services Manager (TSM) supervises employees who install, maintain, and repair industrial processing and manufacturing equipment. This position will coordinate with manufacturing personnel and Plant Management to ensure that manufacturing equipment is maintained and in ready status. S/he ensures that machine and equipment metrics achieve an optimal level of performance, communicate readiness, drive execution of repair and engage a highly skilled team to customer satisfaction.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Oversees the growth and development of site leaders in the areas of Lean Manufacturing principles (5S, MDI, A3, VSM, CRI).
  • Oversees the Business System at the plant level and ensures consistent and effective levels of deployment in connection with standardized methods established by the company
  • Effectively utilizes SPC (Statistical Process Control) to establish in control and capable processes prior to making improvement-based changes.
  • Works closely with the local finance group in justification analysis / ROI development for EBS projects tied to operating efficiency improvement. This includes the justification support for CapEx requirements. Ensures compliance to standards for calculation of savings (rates, recovery, downtime, etc.)
  • Leads a team of skilled technicians and electricians to drive machine and equipment performance.
  • Supports a Predictive and Preventive Maintenance Program for machine tools and equipment.
  • Ensures the implementation and accuracy of the Computer Maintenance Management System (CMMS).
  • Leads and coordinates Root Cause and Corrective Action of machine and equipment failures. Communicates daily status of machine downtime and repair activities.
  • Approves requisitions for equipment, materials and supplies within limits of department budget
  • Accurately interprets data and conveys to the level of the audience

Education and Experience Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering
  • Minimum five (5) years of experience managing projects and maintenance in a heavy manufacturing industry
  • Prior maintenance supervisory or plant engineering experience in a 24/7 operation
  • Experience in the aluminum industry/casting is preferred but not required

Demonstrated Abilities:

  • Strong computer skills. Use of multiple operating business systems; proficient in Outlook, Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint
  • Intensity and tenacious approach to managing safety and understands the critical link between safety and quality, especially from a workplace efficiency perspective.
  • Understands the concept of best practice and benchmarking. Demonstrates connection to the industry through society involvement and participation (LEI, Toyota Institute, APICS, Others).
  • Proficiency in quantifying project impact estimations (monetized and KPI based) and measures results against budgeted values.
  • Proficiency in coaching, teaching and generally developing employees in needed skill sets that contribute to their personal betterment and to the betterment of the company.
  • Experience in continuous improvement (CI) roles external to our company; depth and breadth of exposure to successful lean manufacturing systems in heavy manufacturing.
  • Demonstrated experience of coordinating actual effective execution of improvement initiatives on the manufacturing shop floor (not just consulting but direct involvement).
