Position Overview
The Technical Service Manager (TSM) will be responsible for building and maintaining strong relationships with both prospective and existing clients in technical and manufacturing sectors. This role involves mentoring the current workforce while developing and executing growth strategies and best practices for the assigned location or department. Additionally, the TSM will perform technical tasks as required by business needs.
Key Responsibilities
- Oversee daily operations for the assigned location and/or department, addressing customer concerns, employee issues, and facility matters.
- Lead recruitment, hiring, and training initiatives for direct reports; conduct interviews, performance reviews, and set professional development goals.
- Mentor and guide a team of technicians, assessing performance, ensuring quality standards, and creating training plans to enhance productivity.
- Manage local team schedules and coordinate larger projects with other managers.
- Apply technical expertise to provide solutions for internal and external stakeholders, including preparing and reviewing quotes, conducting job site visits, analyzing test reports, and auditing fieldwork for quality assurance.
- Establish and maintain relationships with clients, internal teams, and vendors, ensuring high levels of customer service in all communications.
- Monitor job performance to ensure projects meet or exceed profitability targets.
- Collaborate with VP and General Managers to develop and implement continuous improvement strategies.
- Prepare reports as required and contribute to business planning.
- Work alongside the Health, Safety, and Environment (HSE) team to implement safety protocols and minimize company risk exposure.
- Be available for flexible work hours, including weekends, holidays, and nights, as needed to support business operations.
- Ensure all work adheres to regulatory laws, company policies, and safety best practices.
- Maintain NETA certification and be open to advancing to the next level within the Testing Division.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications & Experience
- Associate degree in a related field or equivalent work experience, with at least five years of relevant experience.
- Strong knowledge of industry standards, including NETA, NEC, OSHA, and NFPA.
- Preferred experience with MCCs, breakers, relay testing, or related military training (e.g., Army Prime Power, Air Force Electrical Power Production, NAVY, or similar programs).
- Deep understanding of heavy industrial, utility, large commercial, and renewable energy sectors, with the ability to troubleshoot complex business challenges.
- Commitment to workplace safety and adherence to all electrical safety protocols.
- Willingness to work flexible hours, including weekends and holidays, with availability for out-of-town assignments.
- Proven leadership skills with the ability to mentor and develop teams.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to multitask and meet deadlines.
- Customer-focused mindset with the ability to collaborate across different levels of the organization.
- Attention to detail and a focus on accuracy and efficiency.
- For roles requiring a company vehicle, a valid driver’s license is required.
Additional Information
Travel Requirement
- 50% travel across NY
Compensation: $50.00-$68.00 an hour plus eligible for overtime.
Physical Demands
- Ability to lift at least 50 lbs daily, work in confined spaces, climb, and stand for extended periods.
- Work may involve exposure to non-ideal conditions.
- Regular use of a computer and phone as required by business operations
