Team Lead/Disability Management (Bilingual)
Job Description
We are seeking a Team Lead/Disability Management Specialist (Bilingual) to join our Organizational Solutions Inc. team in Toronto, Burlington, Edmonton, or Montreal.
As the Team Lead/Disability Management Specialist, you will bring a valuable combination of background, perspective, and expertise that will shape the future success of your team. In a diverse and inclusive workplace, you will provide guidance, direction, and leadership to help your team achieve key objectives and aligned goals. The Team Lead is responsible for overseeing performance, offering expertise in claim management, return-to-work strategies, proactive care, and complex claims, while monitoring key performance metrics. Additionally, the Team Lead/Disability Management Specialist will carry a smaller Disability Management case load.
The Team Lead/Disability Management Specialist (Bilingual) will:
- Provide knowledge and guidance to the team regarding best practices in the industry to apply to claims management philosophy.
- Serve as a knowledgeable leader by understanding guidelines and procedures to support team members as needed.
- Provide coaching and mentorship to team members, offering guidance, motivation, feedback, and support to help achieve goals, improve performance, and align with the organization’s values and objectives.
- Develop and implement strategies to keep employees motivated and dedicated, while fostering an employee-oriented company culture that emphasizes quality, continuous improvement, retention, development, and high performance.
- Drive performance and accountability of team members through reviewing of KPMs, monthly meetings, daily and weekly huddles, ensuring the use of care management philosophy, following of standardized operating procedures, and career mapping process.
- Reach out to Human Resources for clarification on policies and procedures when required.
- Oversee the proactive management of assigned claims by determining the length of disability through an evaluation of medical information and job duties.
- Implement return to work programs and build relationships with the employer.
- Assertively manage and provide strong strategies to eliminate lost time and/or return to work.
- Ensure claims are up to date, and follow up with any missing claim actions or information.
- Maintain regular communication with other Team Leads, Human Resources, Client Leads, and other stakeholders within the organization.
- Arrange Team Lead back up for team members and team lead responsibilities when out of the office, update HUMI time off descriptions, and other out of office notifications with name of back up(s)
- Work with CLC and Client Leads on case load organization, distribution, and communication.
- Participate in monthly Team Lead meetings, daily huddles, leadership opportunities, and company committees to share information, drive organizational progress, and collaborate across teams.
- Align individual goals with business objectives, contribute to long-term planning, lead operational projects, and pursue ongoing personal development to support the organization's mission and growth.
- Manage a smaller caseload of day-to-day disability claims (STD/LTD/Accommodations), facilitating recovery, and promoting early, safe return-to-work for clients' employees.
- Adjudicate and manage disability claims in accordance with client and OSI policies, ensuring a focus on return-to-work (RTW) and minimizing durations. Enter detailed information into the Disability Management System, evaluate medical and workplace data, and collaborate with internal teams and clients to develop outcome-focused recovery and RTW plans.
To be successful as Team Lead/Disability Management Specialist (Bilingual) with People Corporation, you will need:
- The demonstrated ability to to lead, motivate, coach, and guide team members, fostering a supportive environment for continuous learning and development.
- Direct experience in the Disability Management industry, with a specific focus on managing Short-Term Disability (STD) claims, including adjudication, case management, and return-to-work planning.
- Fluency in both French and English.
- Strong proficiency with technology and skills in the Microsoft Office Suite.
- To set clear objectives, design strategies, allocate resources effectively, and prioritize tasks to achieve goals with great accuracy and attention to detail.

- Willingness to travel occasionally, as required, to support business needs, client meetings, or team collaboration.
All-star candidates will have:
- Registered professional designation / certification or working towards is an asset: (RN, RPN, Kin., RRP, or other related healthcare background; Certified Disability Management Practitioner / Certified Return to Work Coordinator
- Relevant experience in Workers’ Compensation Case Management / Return-To-Work Initiatives / WCB Appeals experience / multi-provincial Experience Rating
- Relevant experience in Disability Management / Claims Adjudication / Return-To-Work Initiatives / STD and LTD or WC Claims Management
- Strong medical and healthcare system knowledge.
