EA Talent Solutions has been engaged by a Top 50 CPA firm to identify a Tax Principal to serve as the Tax Leader for the Timonium office. This is a highly visible leadership role responsible for driving the growth, direction, and overall performance of the office’s tax practice.

The ideal candidate will bring a proven track record of building and leading high-performing tax teams, managing and expanding a book of business, and serving as the final technical authority on tax engagements, including review and sign-off on returns. This individual will play a key role in shaping strategy, developing talent, and strengthening the firm’s presence in the market.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and oversee the Timonium office tax practice, including engagement quality, workflow, and team performance
  • Serve as the final reviewer and signer on tax returns and key client deliverables
  • Drive practice growth through business development and expansion of existing client relationships
  • Manage and develop a high-performing tax team, including coaching and performance management
  • Ensure technical excellence and provide guidance on complex tax matters
  • Oversee client engagements, including staffing, execution, billing, and collections
  • Implement processes to improve efficiency, profitability, and client service


Qualifications

  • Current Partner, Principal, Senior Manager, or Director with demonstrated readiness for a Principal-level leadership role
  • Strong leadership presence with experience building, mentoring, and developing tax teams
  • Proven success in business development and growing a tax practice
  • Deep technical tax expertise with ability to serve as final reviewer/signatory
  • Strong communication and relationship management skills
  • Proficiency with accounting systems and tax technology
  • CPA or law degree required

Practice Leadership & Business Development

  • Act as a market-facing leader, building relationships with clients, referral sources, and the broader business community
  • Identify and pursue new business opportunities while strengthening existing client relationships
  • Develop industry specialization and position the firm as a trusted tax advisor
  • Mentor team members in client development and leadership skills
  • Support recruiting, training, and overall growth of the tax practice
