Job Summary:
The Tax Preparer will be responsible for preparing accurate and timely federal, state, and local tax returns for individuals, businesses, and entities, with a focus on HNWIs and real estate clients, while also managing a generalist client book. This role requires strong technical tax knowledge, attention to detail, and the ability to work independently in a fully remote environment.
Key Responsibilities:
  • Prepare and review federal, state, and local tax returns for individuals, partnerships, corporations, and trusts, ensuring compliance with IRS and state regulations.
  • Handle tax returns for HNWIs, including complex income sources (e.g., investments, trusts, and estates) and real estate-related returns (e.g., rental properties, 1031 exchanges, and depreciation schedules).
  • Manage a generalist client book, addressing diverse tax needs across industries.
  • Conduct research on tax laws and regulations to ensure accurate application to client situations, particularly for HNWIs and real estate transactions.
  • Identify tax-saving opportunities and provide basic tax planning advice to clients.
  • Communicate with clients via email, phone, or video conferencing to gather information, clarify details, and deliver completed returns.
  • Maintain organized client records and documentation using tax software and cloud-based systems.
  • Collaborate with team members remotely to ensure deadlines are met, especially during peak tax season (January–April).
  • Stay updated on changes to tax laws, particularly those affecting HNWIs, real estate, and small businesses.
  • Assist with resolving tax notices or inquiries from the IRS or state authorities as needed.
Qualifications:
  • Minimum of 2 years of professional tax preparation experience in a CPA firm, tax firm, or similar setting.
  • Proven ability to prepare individual and business tax returns (e.g., Forms 1040, 1065, 1120, 1120S) with accuracy and efficiency.
  • Experience with HNWI clients and real estate tax issues, including rental income, capital gains, and passive activity losses.
  • Proficiency with tax preparation software (e.g., Intuit ProSeries, Drake, CCH Axcess, or UltraTax) and Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Strong understanding of federal and state tax codes, with the ability to research complex tax issues.
  • Excellent communication skills for client interactions and remote collaboration.
  • Detail-oriented with strong organizational and time-management skills to meet deadlines in a remote setting.
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple client projects simultaneously.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field preferred (or equivalent experience).
  • Enrolled Agent (EA), Certified Public Accountant (CPA), or progress toward certification is a plus but not required.
Preferred Skills:
  • Familiarity with tax planning strategies for HNWIs and real estate investors.
  • Experience with generalist client portfolios across various industries.
  • Knowledge of QuickBooks or other accounting software for client data integration.
  • Prior experience working remotely, with a track record of self-discipline and productivity.
Work Environment:
  • In-office/Hybrid position with flexible hours, though availability during tax season (January–April) is critical.
Compensation:
  • Competitive salary based on experience, ranging from $70,000–$90,000 annually.
