Job Summary:
The Tax Manager will oversee the preparation and review of federal, state, and local tax returns for individuals, businesses, and entities, with a focus on HNWIs and real estate clients, while managing a generalist client portfolio. This role involves preparing complex tax returns, reviewing work prepared by junior staff, and ensuring compliance and accuracy in a fully remote environment. The ideal candidate is proactive, detail-oriented, and adept at managing client relationships and team workflows.

Key Responsibilities:

Prepare and review complex federal, state, and local tax returns for individuals (Form 1040), partnerships (Form 1065), corporations (Form 1120/1120S), and trusts, ensuring compliance with IRS and state regulations.

Specialize in tax returns for HNWIs (e.g., multi-state filings, investment income, trusts, and estates) and real estate clients (e.g., 1031 exchanges, cost segregation, passive losses).

Manage a generalist client book, addressing tax needs across various industries and complexities.

Review tax returns prepared by junior staff for accuracy, completeness, and compliance, providing constructive feedback and guidance.

Conduct in-depth tax research to address complex issues, particularly for HNWIs and real estate transactions, and apply findings to client deliverables.

Develop and implement tax planning strategies to minimize liabilities for clients, with a focus on HNWIs and real estate investors.

Serve as the primary point of contact for clients, communicating via email, phone, or video conferencing to discuss tax strategies, resolve issues, and deliver results.

Supervise and mentor junior tax preparers, ensuring quality control and adherence to deadlines, especially during peak tax season (January–April).

Maintain organized client records using tax software and cloud-based systems, ensuring data security and accessibility.

Stay current on tax law changes affecting HNWIs, real estate, and small businesses, and communicate updates to clients and team members.

Assist with resolving IRS or state tax notices, audits, or inquiries, representing clients as needed.

Collaborate remotely with firm leadership and staff to streamline processes and improve service delivery.
Qualifications:

Minimum of 5 years of experience in tax preparation and review, preferably in a CPA firm, tax firm, or similar setting, with demonstrated expertise in complex returns.

Proven ability to prepare and review individual, business, and trust tax returns, with a focus on HNWIs and real estate-related filings.

Strong proficiency with tax preparation software (e.g., CCH Axcess, UltraTax, Intuit ProConnect, or Drake) and Microsoft Office Suite.

In-depth knowledge of federal and state tax codes, with advanced research skills for complex tax scenarios.

Exceptional communication and client management skills, with the ability to explain technical tax concepts clearly.

Strong leadership and mentoring abilities to guide junior staff in a remote setting.

Highly organized, with excellent time-management skills to handle multiple clients and deadlines.

Comfortable using remote collaboration tools (e.g., Zoom, Microsoft Teams, Slack) and cloud-based systems

Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field required; Master’s degree in Taxation or Accounting is a plus.

Certified Public Accountant (CPA) ; candidates in progress toward certification will be considered.
Preferred Skills:

Competitive salary based on experience, ranging from $100,000–$140,000 annually.
