A multi-hospital, non-profit health system with over 10,000 employees, has an outstanding opportunity for a Senior Vice President, Chief Medical Officer. The position is located in the Midwest (confidential search). Morgan Hunter HealthSearch has been retatined to conduct this key search.

The CMO, reporting to the System Chief Executive Officer, is the senior physician leader and will supervise managerial personnel in the areas of quality and medical staff offices. Will lead all aspects of quality performance within the acute care facilities and partners with quality leadership of the clinic network. Leads all aspects of medical staff affairs and complaints in conjunction with the Medical Executive Committee leadership. Chairs the Credentials Committee. Works closely with General Counsel in addressing issues of risk management and medicolegal liability.

Sits as non-voting member of medical executive committees of system hospitals.

Oversees operations of the medical staff offices, along with the hospital Chief of Staff. Coordinates medical staff meetings at system hospitals.

Works closely with active medical practices within the system hospitals to ensure high quality, evidence-based medicine is consistently provided. Works closely with Chiefs of Staff at system hospitals, including management of physician issues or complaints. Supervises the various Medical Directors of system hospitals.

Leads/supervises the Quality department.

Works closely on operational issues with the hospital medical leadership, hospital administrators and clinic leadership.

Partners with and supports the initiatives of the Chief Nursing Officer.

Ensures compliance with documentation requirements in the medical record to reflect the severity of patients seen within system hospitals and provides timely information to other providers throughout the health system. Works with active medical staff to fully utilize the electronic medical record system to properly document clinical information to meet government and other third-party payer requirements and meet meaningful use requirements.

The CMO requires considerable leadership expertise relating to strategic planning, process improvement, budget administration and personnel management.

Candidates must be Physician (MD or DO) with at least two years of experience in a similar role.

Strategic thinking and business acumen with the demonstrated ability to align clinical strategies with business objectives.

Operational focus with demonstrated data analysis/interpretation ability, project management, change management, and execution skills.

Extensive knowledge of payor operations, medical quality assurance, quality improvement and risk management.

Track record of successful leadership of case management, disease management, and population health programs.

Adaptable and flexible style of collaborating with key stakeholders in setting direction.

Experience in the development of hospital and physician compensation programs.

Advanced leadership and communication skills.

Excellent presentation skills for both clinical and non-clinical audiences.
