Supplier Development Engineer

We are in search of a Supplier Development Engineer with 5 plus years’ experience. This position will be an instrumental member of our Plant and Supply Chain team. The Supplier Development Engineer is expected to work collaboratively with leadership, product development, engineering, quality, purchasing and other functional areas in order to meet critical business needs. This position will be hands on, will spend a majority of their time on-site at suppliers, and requires significant manufacturing process, quality and program management experience. The right candidate must be self-motivated and be able to effectively manage relationships, both internally and externally at all levels of the organizations, in order to further the core values of Integrity, Respect, Innovation and Teamwork.
Tasks:
- Perform supplier audits and present results outlining non-conformities and areas for continuous improvement with the goal of ensuring adherence to the Supplier Quality Manual, improving quality, reducing cost and improving deliveries.
- Coordinate with Manufacturing Operations to implement timely solutions to ongoing quality and delivery problems within the supply chain through the 8D corrective action process.
- Lead Advanced Production Quality Planning (APQP) with Suppliers and New Product Development (NPD) teams to ensure key program goals, timing and objectives are met from project onset through PPAP approval and launch.
- Support Supply Chain cost reduction projects and NPD teams by coordinating on time and successful submissions of PPAP’s.
- Mentor Ruger suppliers on the implementation of key APQP/PPAP tools: Process Flow Charts, Work Instructions, PFMEA, Control Plans, Gage R&R’s, and process capability.
- Mentor and support internal Ruger stakeholders – Purchasing, Engineering, Receiving, etc – on the implementation of proper APQP and PPAP activities.
- Drive supplier performance improvement activities by leading kaizen events focused on key supplier metrics resulting in improved customer satisfaction.
- Liaison between the Supplier, Purchasing, Quality, Engineering and Operations to assure APQP, PPAP and Production Requirements are clear and understood.

- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong business acumen and understanding of operational metrics for supplier leadership discussions focused improvement.
Qualifications and Requirements:
- 5+ years of manufacturing experience in Operations, Supply Chain, Quality or Supplier Quality.
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing engineering, Industrial Engineering with a strong Quality background.
- Ability to understand and interpret engineering drawings using Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T).
- Experience in Supply Chain or Supplier Quality preferred.
- Thorough knowledge of core processes in the Supply Chain – Metal Injection Molding, Plastic Molding, Swiss/Screw Machine, CNC Machining, Springs and Stampings, Investment Castings and Forgings.
- Thorough knowledge of our secondary/specialized processes in the Supply Chain – Heat Treatment, Coatings, Black Oxide, Melonite, PVD/DLC, and Anodizing.
- Thorough knowledge in Metrology, CMM’s, Gage R&R, Process Capability and variation reduction.
- Experience with a manufacturer that operates with a LEAN manufacturing approach.
- Ability and willingness to travel 50% to suppliers or other locations
