VMG is seeking a Substitute Roman Catholic Musician (RCM) to provide piano and/or organ accompaniment in support of the weekly Roman Catholic Mass at Main Post Chapel, Fort Jackson. This role supports the spiritual life of Soldiers, Families, and authorized personnel by enhancing worship through appropriate sacred music consistent with Roman Catholic liturgical tradition.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide musical accompaniment for the weekly Sunday Roman Catholic Mass
- Perform prelude, offertory, communion, congregational hymns, and postlude music
- Support liturgical responses and congregational participation during worship services
- Coordinate with the Roman Catholic Chaplain and chapel staff regarding music selection and service flow
- Support choir members or cantors as needed
- Arrive prior to scheduled services to prepare and support worship activities
- Maintain a professional, respectful, and worship-appropriate presence at all times
Required Qualifications
- Demonstrated experience performing music in Roman Catholic worship settings
- Proficiency in piano and/or organ accompaniment
- Working knowledge of Roman Catholic liturgy and Mass structure
- Ability to collaborate effectively with clergy, chapel staff, and volunteers
- Strong sight-reading and adaptability for liturgical music
Preferred Qualifications
- Formal music training, certification, or liturgical music experience
- Experience supporting military chapel programs or faith-based worship services
Work Schedule
- Approximately 3 hours per week
- Sunday Mass support (9:30 AM service)
- Includes preparation and performance time
- Occasional coordination outside of scheduled service hours may be required
Work Environment
- Work performed in a chapel setting during worship services
- Requires professionalism, flexibility, and respectful interaction within a military religious environment
Security & Requirements
- Must be able to obtain and maintain installation access
- Must complete required security and awareness training within established timelines
- Must comply with Army Chapel and installation policies and procedures
