Role Summary

Monument Group is seeking an experienced Senior Structural Engineer, P.Eng. to serve as the technical leader of its structural engineering function.

This is a pivotal strategic hire. The successful candidate will:

  • Provide senior-level structural expertise and professional stamping authority
  • Serve as the primary mentor to existing structural engineering staff
  • Enable Monument to confidently pursue and deliver more complex structural projects
  • Help establish internal standards, quality controls, and workflows
  • Contribute to the long-term growth and positioning of Monument’s structural practice

This role combines technical leadership, mentorship, project delivery, and business development. It is an opportunity for an experienced structural engineer who wants influence, autonomy, and the ability to build something meaningful within a growing firm.

Key Responsibilities

Structural Design and Technical Leadership

  • Lead structural design and analysis across a broad range of project types including buildings, bridges, foundations, industrial structures, and municipal infrastructure
  • Provide stamping authority and professional sign-off on structural drawings, reports, specifications, and calculations
  • Review, supervise, and mentor work produced by junior and intermediate structural staff
  • Conduct and oversee structural assessments, condition surveys, and rehabilitation design
  • Prepare and review contract documents, technical reports, and specifications
  • Provide field review and construction support services as required
  • Ensure compliance with applicable Canadian codes and standards including NBCC, CSA S6, CSA A23.3, CSA S16, and related regulations
  • Establish and reinforce quality control standards and risk management practices within the structural group

Mentorship and Team Development

  • Act as the primary technical mentor for Monument’s junior and intermediate structural engineer
  • Provide day-to-day guidance and structured professional development support
  • Coach staff through increasingly complex scopes with appropriate professional oversight
  • Build internal confidence and capacity to expand the structural service offering
  • Contribute to the development of internal structural standards, workflows, and review processes

Project Management

  • Manage structural projects from proposal and design through to construction completion
  • Coordinate with multidisciplinary internal teams including survey and civil engineering
  • Liaise with external subconsultants as required
  • Maintain project schedules, budgets, and client communication
  • Support other Monument project managers on structurally related scopes
  • Participate in client meetings and technical discussions

Business Development and Growth

  • Contribute to proposal development and pursuit of new structural opportunities
  • Help identify and cultivate new client relationships in the building, municipal, federal, and infrastructure sectors
  • Support Monument’s positioning in structural engineering through industry association participation and networking
  • Leverage Monument’s Indigenous certification (CCIB) as a strategic differentiator in federal and public sector procurement
  • Strengthen Monument’s technical resume to support RFP competitiveness

Qualifications

  • Licensed Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) in Ontario, in good standing
  • Minimum 12 years of progressive structural engineering experience
  • Degree in Civil or Structural Engineering; graduate-level degree is an asset
  • Demonstrated experience across multiple structural project types including buildings, bridges, foundations, rehabilitation, and industrial structures
  • Proven experience mentoring and developing junior engineering staff
  • Experience providing professional review and stamping of structural work
  • Proficiency in structural analysis and design software such as SAP2000, ETABS, STAAD, RISA, or similar
  • Working knowledge of AutoCAD, Civil 3D, or equivalent CAD platforms
  • Experience with construction contract administration and field review
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to produce high-quality technical reports and client-facing documents
  • Valid driver’s licence and ability to travel to project sites across Ontario

Work Location and Flexibility

The preferred location is Eastern Ontario, with primary consideration given to candidates able to work from the Deseronto or Ottawa offices. Flexible or hybrid arrangements may be considered for the right candidate, with regular in-person engagement expected to support mentorship and team integration.
