We are seeking a Structural Bridge Engineer to join our growing Virginia design team. Your Key Responsibilities
- Lead and contribute to structural bridge designs for a variety of transportation projects.
- Prepare design calculations, plans, and contract documents in compliance with industry and agency standards (AASHTO, ACI, AISC, VDOT, etc.).
- Conduct structural analysis of both new designs and existing bridge structures.
- Develop innovative, cost-effective solutions by evaluating and reviewing conceptual design alternatives.
- Perform bridge inspections, assess structural conditions, and prepare detailed reports to support maintenance and rehabilitation efforts.
What You Bring to the Team
- Strong technical skills and a passion for problem-solving in a collaborative team environment.
- EIT certification is required (P.E. preferred or ability to obtain).
- Experience with AASHTO Bridge Design Specifications is a must.
- Familiarity with MDOT SHA, MDTA, and VDOT design criteria is preferred.
- Proficiency in MicroStation or AutoCAD is a plus.
- Bridge load rating experience and knowledge of national/state inspection methods are a strong advantage.
- Willingness to travel within Maryland, Virginia, and D.C. for fieldwork and inspections.
- Ability to climb ladders and work at heights using bridge inspection access equipment.
Education & Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering with a structural engineering focus.
- Minimum 5 years of experience in structural engineering for bridges and transportation structures.
- Professional Engineer (P.E.) license in Virginia is preferred.
This role offers a hybrid mix of office-based work and fieldwork, and can be based out of any of our offices in Virginia and Maryland.
