Stormwater Engineering Technical Lead

Ciorba Group is seeking a highly qualified Stormwater Engineer with expertise in technical leadership and hydraulic analysis to join our Water Resources team based in Illinois and Indiana. This role is pivotal in leading project teams through advanced hydrologic and hydraulic analyses, stormwater system design, and floodplain management. The successful candidate will thrive in a multi-disciplinary environment, mentoring junior staff, and fostering strong client relationships to deliver sustainable, innovative solutions for complex water resource challenges.

Salary: Commensurate with experience per year

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Perform detailed hydrologic and hydraulic analyses to study floodplains, floodways, bridge and culvert crossings.
  • Identify problems and develop alternative solutions concerning flooding issues.
  • Design and manage robust stormwater systems for municipal and roadway projects, including aspects of conveyance, storage, and water quality improvement.
  • Create designs for soil erosion and sediment control practices aligned with environmental standards.
  • Serve as a technical leader, overseeing engineers and technicians to complete project-specific plans while carrying out critical assignments independently.
  • Prepare detailed calculations, models, and reports; draft comprehensive plans; and estimate project costs effectively.
  • Review and validate engineering designs, ensuring accuracy and compliance with regulations.
  • Develop strong, positive relationships with clients, stakeholders, and vendors to ensure project success and professional excellence.
  • Provide mentorship and support to staff engineers, promoting continuous learning and professional growth within the team.

Minimum Position Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering.
  • 8-12 years of professional experience in water resources engineering.
  • Proven ability to lead technical aspects of large projects.
  • Hands-on experience with stormwater design, management, and regulatory compliance.
  • Proficient in the use of hydrology and hydraulics modeling tools, such as HEC-RAS and SWMM.
  • Demonstrable skills in roadway drainage systems and flood reduction project management.
  • Possession of an active Illinois or Indiana Professional Engineer (PE) license.
  • A robust project resume displaying a history of technical leadership in relevant projects.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Certification as a Floodplain Manager (CFM).
  • Experience in erosion control and the management of floodplain landscapes.
  • High-level proficiency in MicroStation; experience with AutoCAD is advantageous but not essential.
