Surgo (PTY) Ltd. has partnered with one of South Africa’s fastest-growing pharmaceutical retail groups with operations in South Africa, Botswana and Namibia. The group was founded in 1978 and has its’ Head Office based in Midrand, Johannesburg.

Our client has since grown to over 200 stores to date, employing over 18 500 full-time and part-time employees and is now looking to recruit a Store Manager to join their team in Beacon Bay, East London.

Job Purpose:

Be responsible for the overall store profitability. Ensure compliance with the brand values of the company in all aspects in store. Management
of key store operating pillars, with includes but not limited to:
  • Brand visual strategies, corporate identity, and promotional execution
  • Above expectation delivery of customer service
  • Operational compliance and execution of all company policies and processes within the store environment
  • Training, mentoring, and exercising of leadership over the entire store workforce

Responsibilities:
Financial Management
  • Assist with the Budget preparation and maintenance within the store
  • Allocate store funds and defining financial objectives
  • Maintain statistical and financial records
  • Responsible for all banking functions related to the store including making bank deposits, filling change requirements, etc. including all cash held on site
  • Optimise the store's profitability
  • Participate in daily operational and sales activities to achieve customer service and business growth objectives
  • Oversee pricing and stock control
  • Ensure all expense related items are controlled and managed within budget
  • Ensure all expense related stock is adjusted to the correct GL accounts monthly
  • Ensure the ordering and monitoring of expense related items within the store
Stock and Inventory Management
  • Total management of store inventory, including but limited to planning, implementation, investigation and reporting on all store inventory counts
  • Manage and ensure the daily ordering of stock and maintain correct stock levels
  • Oversee the preparation, coordination and management of stock takes on a Bi-annual basis
  • Oversee the management the store shrinkage, stock flow to the floor and consumables expense within store targets
  • Analyse and interpret trends to facilitate planning
  • Oversee the Investigation of negative GP values in the store and take appropriate actions to identify and rectify controllable errors
  • Investigate and verify manual purchases processed against the business unit
  • Minimise, investigate, correct, and report on business unit negative stock on hand
  • Minimise, investigate, and report on business unit dormant stock
  • Analyse dormant stock reports for heads of department to investigate and rectify
  • Ensure the physical stock in all storage locations balances with the inventory ledger in SAP
  • Daily management of out-of-stock, to ensure maximum stock on the shelves
  • Manage goods in transit as directed by standard operating procedure
Sales Targets
  • Ensure store achieves set sales targets, including but not limited to health, beauty and FMCG
  • Work closely with all head of departments to ensure targets are met
  • Ensure promotions are effectively executed
  • Coordinate with other stores to share knowledge, plan promotional activities, or achieve goals
  • Maintain awareness of market trends in the retail industry, understanding forthcoming customer initiatives and monitoring what local competitors are doing
  • Determine all profit and sales objectives and design effective strategies to always maintain inventory levels and manage all work according to store policies and procedures
  • Propose innovative ideas to senior management to increase market share
  • Develop business strategies to raise our customers’ pool, expand store traffic, and optimise profitability
Merchandising
  • Take personal responsibility to ensure that all merchandisers adhere to Merchandising standards
  • Ensure that Promotional stock and Displays are planned, implemented, and maintained at least 24 hours before promotions break
  • Adhere to all labelling, pricing and layout standards and ensure that merchandisers adhere to these standards
  • Approve promotional materials and displays
  • Maintain outstanding store condition and visual merchandising standards
  • Plan and implement shop merchandising, layout, and the customer traffic flow as to maximise sales, customer satisfaction, appearance, and brand image
Cash Office and Point of Sale Operations
  • Take complete control and manage the store cash resources, daily takings and banking in compliance with company operating procedures
  • Manage tender discrepancies that include value of negatives, value of auto receipts, balancing of returns and value of dormant
  • Ensure balancing of floats and manage all store float discrepancies
  • Review the reconciliation of daily takings to turnover to ensure it balances
  • Ensure transaction integrity throughout the branch by effective monitoring, implementation, and evaluation of adherence of company internal control procedures
  • Ensure the accuracy and completeness of branch transactions
  • Manage cashier service levels and cashier productivity rates
  • Control overtime and casual spend
  • Sign off and investigation of run ends daily
  • Follow of cash collections procedures as detailed in the standard operating procedures
  • Manage price overrides to ensure it is kept to a minimum
Customer Service
  • Entirely commit to ensuring that the store provides an above expectation customer service experience, in adherence to company policies and procedures
  • Resolve customer problems in a timely manner
  • Address customer and employee satisfaction issues promptly and in person
  • Develop professional relationships with all customer contacts
  • Ensure high levels of customer’s satisfaction through excellent service
  • Ensure that staff follows company policies and procedures as detailed in the standard operating procedures
  • Ensure that the customer request system is operational and actioned daily
  • Ensure the accurate manual processing of points to customer accounts
  • Report and encourage new loyalty signups continuously
Team Management
  • Manage and facilitate human resource processes, submissions, and documentation for the entire business unit in compliance with standard operating procedures
  • Manage store personnel including guiding and supporting them with training, mentoring and developments
  • Monitor, evaluating, and coaching performance; staffing, scheduling, prioritising and delegating tasks
  • Ensure that employees receive planned training and request feedback from employees whom attended training
  • Manage the performance management process and ensure that personal development plans are adhered to
  • Take total ownership of the workforce management system (KRONOS) within the business units, including master data management and transactional management
  • Ensure the implementation and execution of the company’s performance management system, as directed by company policy
  • Manage the day-to-day Human Recourse administration including but not limited to leave, hours of work and scheduling
  • Equip and grow employees and junior management into more senior positions
  • Effectively convey knowledge to your team
General
  • The Housekeeping must be in accordance with company standards. Make sure that your workstation is always clean and tidy
  • Adhere to Policies and Standard Operating Procedures
  • Adhere to Health and Safety rules and regulations
  • Adhere to company uniform and personal appearance policy
Qualification, Experience and Requirements:
  • Grade 12
  • Minimum of 5 years’ Retail Store Management experience.
  • Diploma or Advanced Certificate in Management or BCom Degree, Retail Management Diploma or relevant Commercial qualification (Advantage)
  • Minimum 2 years’ experience in Unisolv / SAP / Qlikview
  • Previous experience with Kronos (Advantage)
  • SA ID
  • Clear Credit and Criminal records
  • Valid Driver's license and own reliable transport
Salary: Market related based on level of experience
