Reporting to the owner the Store Manager will be responsible for the day-to-day store operations. The store
manager is responsible for achieving the sales, marketing, daily operational objectives, and also is responsible
for the protection of store and company assets. As the sales leader, provides a superior customer experience
through a team of knowledgeable associates and supplying the best values in the marketplace. Continually
strives to build long term relationships with our clients through a team of caring employees.

Expected results
Job Duties: The following job duties outline some of the primary duties and goals of the Store
Manager.
1. Ongoing developmental training of sales associates in Customer to Client skills. Sales
associates support the company selling system of Customer to Client Sales. Sales associates are
proficient in those skills. Where proficiency is lacking, Improvement Agreements have been generated
as a plan for improved performance.
2. Develop a sales force that focuses on repeat clients and referrals, and lessens the dependence
on advertising and location. Personal trade and referral customers increase as shown by Written
Sales reports. Sales associates follow-through with their clients, and their card files indicate successful
client relationships.
3. Manage a sales team that meets its goals in all areas. Measure and record the results of the team's
efforts and report historical and anticipated results. Owners and general management is made aware
of sales performance to-date, sales performance towards sales goals, and forecasts are made for
upcoming periods as required. Sales goals are achieved.
4. Ultimately responsible for the staffing of sales associates. The correct staff level is maintained to
fulfill your company mission statement and provide the proper level of service, and a list of candidates
is available to start within 2-3 weeks. Interview forms are used and maintained in associate’s files. The
store is properly staffed, hiring decisions are good, interview forms are maintained, and candidates are
ready to join the company within 2-3 weeks.
5. The goal setting, and goal accountability process may be the most important task in the sales
manager’s job description. Sales associates set their goals appropriately, their combined goals
exceed the stores goal, and associates are held accountable for goal achievement. Sales goals are
appropriate and achieved.
6. Key in daily goals for each sales associate before the beginning of the month. Daily goals are
keyed appropriately.
7. It is the mission of the Store Manager to develop a properly staffed and motivated Customer to
Client focused sales team. Everyone uses the company’s selling system, and there is strong
evidence of a high level of service being provided to every customer that enters the store. Sales goals
are consistently achieved.
8. Recruit and hire all sales staff, both as needed and in and ongoing process with the goal of
having candidates available on short notice. The floor is staffed with the appropriate number of
associates, and there is an appropriate number of candidates available to fill potentially vacated
positions.
9. Walk the floor regularly looking for customers not being properly assisted, floor display problems,
product damage problems, tagging or signage problems, and any sales associate related issues. Sales
manager spends a significant amount of time on the floor, customers are properly assisted, and issues
are appropriately resolved.
10. Store Manager Mission: The mission of the Store Manager is to help each of his team attain
their goals while ensuring that the management goal is attained. The range of performance
between the salespeople from the top to bottom is reduced, and the high, average, and low is
increased. The management goal and each of members of the sales team attain their goals while living

Experience and knowledge requirements
1. 5-8 plus years of leadership experience in positions of increasing responsibility (overseeing multiple
direct reports) ideally in a retail furniture showroom store.
2. A background and proven history with knowledge of sales including working with commissioned sales
personnel.
3. The position requires a thorough knowledge of retail sales, marketing, merchandising techniques and
their relationship to each other.
4. Candidate must possess good human relations skills and excellent communication skills.
5. Knowledge of concepts related to warehouse environments and sales support operations is required
including; knowledge of delivery operations (residential, and commercial), basic merchandising
principles including visual display standards, inventory control and customer service procedures
Required product familiarity
A prospective candidate should possess product knowledge and familiarity within the home furnishings
products lines including; Upholstery, Occasional, Bedroom, Sleep, Home Office, Youth/Kids, Casual Dining,
Dining, Leather, Accents, Accessories, Wall Art and Outdoor Furniture.
Necessary technical abilities
Basic knowledge and understanding of visual merchandising, including style, fabric, color and
assortment planning.
Knowledge of pricing and pricing relationship to volume and gross margin.
Knowledge and exposure to a design store, and gallery environment.
Background and knowledge of financial reporting, record keeping and a history of profit and loss
responsibility in a retail environment.
Proficient in the use of store computer and retail software systems with systems such as PROFIT,
GERS, STORIS, FROG, FURNSERVE, AS-400, etc..
Proficient in the use of PC programs including MS Word and Excel.
Knowledge of inventory control and its relationship to cash flow.
Preferred educational background
A Bachelor’s degree in business is required or a candidate can meet this requirement with an equivalent
combination of practical experience plus education.
Compensation:
This position is heavily weighted towards a base salary with a variable rate comprised of incentive components
including;
1. Base Salary
2. Commission for personal sales
3. Warranty Spiffs
4. Quarterly incentive plan.
A candidate's total compensation will be driven by their desire and ability to achieve sales and profit targets.
