Salary: $19.00 - $28.00 per hour
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Perform and participate in the decontamination, cleaning, assembly, packaging, scanning, storage, and distribution of reusable surgical instruments and equipment.
- Adhere to strict sterilization protocols as per organizational policies and regulatory requirements including OSHA, CDC, AAMI, IAHCSMM, and The Joint Commission.
- Demonstrate competency in handling specialized surgical instruments and equipment unique to surgical services.
- Monitor supplies in the Central Sterile area and adjust inventory levels as necessary to maintain optimal workflow and resource availability.
- Conduct routine and as-needed maintenance of sterilization equipment, including biological testing and functional checks.
- Collaborate with surgical and perioperative teams to ensure equipment and instrument availability, including managing repairs and coordinating loaner equipment arrangements.
- Provide training and act as a resource to other staff regarding new instruments and sterilization procedures.
Minimum Position Qualifications:
- Required certification as a Central Service Technician from a nationally recognized organization or must be obtained within one year of hire.
- Must hold a current American Heart Association (AHA) Healthcare Provider CPR (BLS) certification.
- Possess strong knowledge of sterilization practices and standards.
- Ability to follow complex instructions and adhere to safety protocols.
- Experience working within a hospital or clinical environment preferred.
- Strong communication and organizational skills.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with surgical instrumentation specialized to areas such as orthopedics or cardiovascular services.
- Advanced certification in sterile processing or surgical technology.
- Previous experience in a leadership or training position within a sterile processing department.
