State and Local Tax Specialist - Senior/Manager Levels
We are seeking experienced CPAs to join our State and Local Tax (SALT) team. This role offers the opportunity to work within a well-established, highly profitable regional CPA firm. Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Manage and delegate specialty tax research projects to ensure accuracy and efficiency.
- Actively participate in client meetings and tax planning efforts, especially for larger clients, to maximize tax optimization.
- Serve as a resource on specialty tax/state and local tax issues during consultations with tax preparers/specialists and auditing and accounting staff.
- Take on direct client service responsibilities where appropriate, under delegation from partners or managers.
- Inform internal teams about significant tax developments that could impact client engagements.
- Manage tax audit processes and represent clients before taxing authorities at hearings and appeals.
- Compose technical memoranda and correspondence addressing client matters and queries.
- Contribute to the firm's development efforts through involvement in community activities and industry events.
- Responsible for the supervision and development of junior staff, including overseeing their training program.
Minimum Position Qualifications:
- Minimum of five (5) years of progressive experience in public accounting, focused on tax return complexity and scope.
- At least two (2) years of experience representing clients before taxing authorities.
- One (1) year of supervisory experience, managing tax preparers.
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting is required.
- Maintain a minimum of forty (40) hours of continuing education annually.
- CPA certification is preferred, or a J.D. with a strong tax law background.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Master’s degree in taxation is highly favored.
- Demonstrated depth of knowledge in current tax laws and strategies.
Skills:
- Expertise in Microsoft Office suite, specifically Excel for financial analyses.
- Proficiency in tax preparation, research, and planning software programs.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills to interact convincingly with clients and tax authorities.
- Highly developed organizational and project management capabilities to meet continuous deadlines.
- Ability to mentor and lead teams, fostering a learning and development environment.
