Staff Accountant
JOB SUMMARY
The Staff Accountant plays a vital role in the finance department, responsible for various accounting tasks and financial activities. This role involves maintaining accurate financial records, assisting in financial analysis, and ensuring compliance with accounting principles and regulations. Staff Accountants are essential in supporting the organization's financial stability and integrity.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
1. General Ledger Maintenance:
· Record financial transactions accurately in the general ledger.
· Ensure adherence to accounting principles, company policies, and relevant regulations.
· Maintain organized and up-to-date financial records.
2. Accounts Payable and Receivable:
· Process accounts payable transactions, including vendor invoice verification, approvals, and payments.
· Generate and send customer invoices, monitor accounts receivable, and manage collections.
3. Bank Reconciliation:
· Reconcile bank statements and other financial accounts on a regular basis.
· Investigate and resolve discrepancies or issues.
4. Month-End and Year-End Closing:
· Assist in month-end and year-end closing processes, including preparing journal entries and reconciling accounts.
· Prepare financial statements and reports as needed.
5. Financial Analysis:
· Analyze financial data to identify trends, variances, and areas for improvement.
· Prepare financial reports, including variance analysis and budget vs. actual reports.
6. Budgeting and Forecasting:
· Assist in the preparation of budgets and forecasts.
· Collaborate with department managers to gather data and provide support for budget planning.
7. Tax Compliance:
· Prepare and file tax returns accurately and in a timely manner.
· Assist in tax planning and compliance with tax regulations.
8. Audit Support
· Provide documentation and support for internal and external audits.
· Assist auditors during audit procedures.
9. Expense Tracking and Cost Control:
· Monitor and categorize business expenses.
· Analyze expense reports and identify opportunities for cost savings.
10. Compliance and Documentation:
· Ensure compliance with accounting standards, financial regulations, and company policies.
· Maintain organized financial records and documentation.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or a related field.
- CPA certification or progress toward CPA is advantageous.
- Proven experience as a Staff Accountant or in a similar accounting role.
- Strong knowledge of accounting principles and practices.
- Proficiency in accounting software and financial management systems.
- Excellent attention to detail and accuracy in financial data entry and recordkeeping.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a finance team.
- Familiarity with tax regulations and compliance is beneficial.
