Staff Accountant

Focus:

  • Manage general ledger accounting for restricted and unrestricted fund categories.
  • Prepare and analyze financial statements in compliance with organizational policies and GAAP.
  • Ensure accuracy in financial transactions including cash receipts, journal entries, and intercompany reconciliations.
  • Oversee monthly, quarterly, and year-end closing procedures, ensuring deadlines are met.
  • Coordinate fund transfers, revenue postings, and reconciliations related to donor-restricted contributions.
  • Maintain detailed audit trails and assist in audit preparation and external reviews.
  • Serve as a finance liaison for cross-departmental teams and external partners.
  • Identify process improvement opportunities, contributing to system enhancements and workflow optimization.
  • Support budgeting, forecasting, and variance analysis processes

Skill Set:

  • Demonstrated foundation in financial reporting and accounting practices through formal training or professional experience.
  • At least two years of professional experience supporting core accounting functions, including transaction processing and financial recordkeeping.
  • Proficiency in using ERP systems (e.g., Banner, Blackbaud, or similar platforms).
  • Strong knowledge of GAAP and financial reporting standards.
  • Excellent organizational, communication, and analytical skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks while maintaining a high level of accuracy and attention to detail.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in nonprofit, education, or fund-based accounting environments.
  • Exposure to donor fund tracking, scholarship fund accounting, or grant reporting.
  • CPA eligibility or ongoing pursuit of CPA designation a plus.
