Job Title: Staff Accountant

Location: Washington, DC (Hybrid – 3 Days In Office / 2 Remote)

Salary Range: $55,000 – $66,000

Position Overview

We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented accounting professional to join our nonprofit finance team. This role is primarily focused on Accounts Payable, with the opportunity to gain exposure to contracts, general ledger accounting, budgeting, and forecasting. The ideal candidate is collaborative, reliable, and eager to grow within a stable accounting team.

Key Responsibilities

  • Process and manage full-cycle Accounts Payable, including invoice review, coding, approvals, and payments

  • Utilize Concur for expense report review and reimbursement processing

  • Assist with general ledger activities, reconciliations, and journal entry support

  • Provide AP backup support and assist with cross-training within the accounting team

  • Support contract-related accounting tasks and documentation

  • Assist with budgeting and forecasting activities as exposure and experience grow

  • Maintain accurate records and ensure compliance with nonprofit accounting standards

  • Collaborate closely with an 8-person accounting team and other departments

Qualifications & Experience

  • 1–2 years of accounting or accounts payable experience

  • Prior nonprofit accounting experience strongly preferred

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university (Accounting, Finance, or related field)

  • Experience with Concur is highly desirable

  • Exposure to NetSuite is a plus (organization went live January 1, 2026)

  • Strong communication skills with the ability to collaborate and multitask

  • Detail-oriented, dependable, and eager to learn

  • Demonstrated job stability (no frequent job changes)
