Job Description

Our client is seeking a Sr. Test Specialist for their Manufacturing Engineering Team. This is a permanent, full-time position located in Vaughan, Ontario. Reporting to the Head of Technology, you will be responsible for the design and documentation of automated test equipment, software, and product-specific test fixtures used to test Battery Management systems for various applications. Key responsibilities include:

  1. Interact with and provide support to various teams (production, quality, operations, design) and customers on product related testing, troubleshooting and repair requirements.
  2. Design/develop automated test equipment/platforms for testing battery management systems.
  3. Produce and maintain test equipment related documentation (schematics, BOM’s, assembly drawings, etc.).
  4. Maintain/improve hardware and software for existing systems.
  5. Produce qualification test plans and reports.
  6. Support Engineering prototype activities including system assembly, qualification and design verification testing and troubleshooting.
  7. Conduct DFT reviews for new products.
  8. Coordinate 3rd party test activities and interface with external test labs as required.
  9. Uphold 5S standards and methodologies to ensure a safe work environment while promoting continuous improvement initiatives.
  10. Adhere to ESD safe material handling practices.
  11. Guide and mentor junior test engineering team members.
  12. Maintain current on automated testing technologies and trends, bringing competitive advantage to the company.


  1. Degree in Electrical or Electronics Engineering or related field or equivalent knowledge and experience.
  2. 5+ years of hands-on automated test equipment design within the power electronics or battery management systems design and manufacturing industries, including strong knowledge of test automation approaches and testing framework.
  3. Test equipment/software design using NI LabVIEW.
  4. Experience with 3rd party power electronics test systems and instruments such as NH Research and Chroma.
  5. Extensive knowledge of test and measurement instrumentation including test automation and PC-based I/O and data acquisition hardware.
  6. Experience designing and developing test software routines from product or component datasheets.
  7. Extensive test development experience, including procurement, software and hardware development, system integration, installation, commissioning, and support for manufacturing.
  8. Experience working within and adhering to rigorous compliance and design control procedures.
  9. Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  10. Experience with battery management and assembly systems (up to 500V/50kWh) for industrial, military, mile Hybrid Electric Vehicles (mHEV) applications is a strong asset.
