Education: Associate degree in Engineering Technology or Computer-Aided Drafting

Experience: This position requires 10+ years of relevant industrial experience in mechanical/structural drafting and design with preferred emphasis in forest products industry.

Job Summary:
Be part of multi-discipline and nimble design team supporting the forest products industry. Develop new system layouts, assembly drawings, fabrication details, and installation packages for Sawmills, Pellet
Mills, OSB Mills and Plywood mills as well as for other related forest products. Work closely with inter-company fabrication team and alliance vendors to develop high performing and cost competitive solutions to meet our clients capital project demands.

Key Responsibilities and Duties:
• Field measure and condition evaluation of existing facilities
• Coordinate closely with engineering and company leadership to define project scope
• Develop layout and general arrangement drawings of proposed project scope
• Determine construction quantities and support construction cost estimates.
• Design foundations and structural steel supports for all new equipment
• Design catwalks, stairs and ladders per IBC & OSHA requirements
• Design of moderately complex material handling and infrastructure systems.
• Develop fabrication and installation details for all mechanical/structural items
• Provide technical guidance to less experienced drafting personnel in the department.
• Conduct and participate in squad checks to insure design team coordination.
• Provide on-site assistance during installation and startup.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:
• Knowledge and application of common structural steel shapes and other construction materials.
• Knowledge and application of material handling systems.
• Ability to create accurate installation documents from the information found on vendor equipment drawings.
• Ability to accurately estimate completion of assigned tasks.
• Knowledge and application of design and CAD drafting standards.
• Proficient in the use of 2D AutoCAD
• Working knowledge of 3D design software - Inventor or Solidworks
• Proficient in the use of Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook.
• Good communication skills, both verbal and written.
• Virtual team and relationship development skills
• Able to work minimal to no supervision.
