SUMMARY OF ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

As a Senior Diamond Turning Specialist / Technician, you are comfortable solving some of the most challenging conventional and unconventional diamond machining projects and working independently. You are comfortable working with a variety of materials, tolerances, shapes and sizes, on and off axis as well as operating the associated metrology equipment to validate your work. You are naturally comfortable as a mentor and teacher. You enjoy working in small close-knit teams. Essentially you will be operating diamond turning machines to manufacture close tolerance precisions optics / metals to exact specifications. You will be working to support organizational, customer, and quality objectives.

SPECIFIC DUTIES, ACTIVITIES, AND RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO:

Primary Tasks to be performed:

  • Develop diamond machining processes where necessary
  • Full understanding of a variety of materials used in Diamond Turning, including: glasses, metals, crystals, and infrared materials
  • Provide mentoring and guidance to other technicians as needed
  • Operate and set up diamond turning/grinding machining centers
  • Experience with Precitech, and Moore Nanotechnology equipment desired
  • Expand CNC programming and have the ability to create and/or modify CNC programs
  • Operate and understand Optical test equipment such as interferometers and surface profilometers
  • Follow and contribute to documenting processes and work instructions for diamond turning operations
  • Operate traditional inspection equipment such as Zygo interferometers, Radius Slides, CMM, Talysurf profilometer, toolmaker’s microscope, micrometers, height gauges and Vernier calipers
  • Ability to read and understand both optical and traditional mechanical drawings and to translate those drawings into machine instructions and processes
  • Perform and complete tasks assigned by your immediate supervisor in a timely and professional manner.
  • Support company values and work ethics.
  • Provide support as needed for Kaizen events, root cause analysis, preventative action, customer returns, non-conformances and other quality events.
  • Knowledge of Diffsys or other similar CAM software extremely helpful.
  • Maintain a safe environment and enforce all safety protocols.
  • Provide facility security as needed.
  • Other duties as assigned.
  • Report to your immediate supervisor about any observed employee accidents or personal injury.
  • Work cooperatively with production team leads as well as engineers and other company staff across this facility and other company locations.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

Education/Training: Minimum Requirement: H.S Diploma or Equivalent

Experience: Minimum Requirement: 10+ Years of Diamond Turning Machining Experience

3 Years of Programming experience

KNOWLEDGE / SKILLS:

        • Basic computer skills (MS Word/MS Excel/MS Outlook etc.)
        • Diamond Turning Equipment programming
        • Good verbal and written communication
        • Proficient math skills
        • Ability to follow detailed instructions
        • Ability to read optical drawings
        • Analytical troubleshooting/problem solving

PHYSICAL/MENTAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • BODY POSITIONS: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand for prolonged periods of time. The individual must also have the ability to maneuver around the plant
  • BODY MOVEMENTS: The employee must have a full range of body movements including use of hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, computer equipment and peripherals; and bending, reaching, and crouching.
  • BODY SENSES: Must have command of these senses: sight, hearing, touch and smell (if applicable). Specific vision abilities required include close vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. These vision requirements in each area must be sufficient to shift in focus from computer screens to close forms.
  • STRENGTH: May occasionally lift 30lbs.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

This position will be working primarily indoors in a climate-controlled, manufacturing, and smoke-free environment, but also requires the employee to be moving through other areas on a regular basis. From this movement, the employee will encounter varying temperatures from these areas. Normal auto and air travel hazards will apply. The noise level in the work environment is usually low to moderate.
