About the Opportunity

A leading aerospace and defense manufacturer is seeking a Senior Cost Accountant to play a crucial role in maintaining and enhancing the cost accounting system while ensuring compliance with CAS, ASC 606, GAAP, and company policies. This is a high-visibility role with direct influence on financial strategies that support innovative aerospace programs.

What You'll Do

• Oversee month-end and quarter-end close processes related to inventory, cost of sales, and revenue recognition, including journal entries and reconciliations
• Supervise and mentor a team of Cost Accountants and Cost Estimators in government cost accounting practices
• Lead preparation and analysis of gross margin reports and conduct inventory audits
• Perform variance analysis to improve financial accuracy
• Ensure compliance with SOX requirements and support internal and external audits
• Recommend process improvements and enhance operational efficiency

What You Bring

• Education: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance
• Experience: Ideally 7–10 years of progressive cost accounting experience in a manufacturing environment; prefer a minimum 5 years in aerospace or government contracting
• Proven experience in cost estimation and product costing, including interpreting blueprints, calculating labor hours, and developing comprehensive manufacturing cost estimates for parts.
• Government Cost Accounting: Solid understanding of CAS requirements and government contract cost accounting
• Compliance: Working knowledge of ASC 606, GAAP, SOX, and internal controls
• Systems: Proficiency in ERP systems and advanced Microsoft Excel
• Skills: Strong analytical ability, attention to detail, clear financial communication, and a process-improvement mindset
• A minimum of 3-5 years of experience is desired; however, an equivalent combination of education, relevant coursework, and hands-on experience will be considered.
