Sr. Controls Hardware Engineer
Job Description
- Lead the electrical controls engineering execution for advanced automated storage and robotic material handling systems including pallet shuttles, tote shuttles, AMRs, conveyors, and lifts
- Support Sales, Engineering, Project Management, and Commissioning teams during both pre-sales system integration discussions and full project execution activities
- Serve as a senior technical resource responsible for mentoring junior controls engineers while helping guide projects from concept development through commissioning and customer handoff
- Develop PLC programs, functional descriptions, SOPs, manuals, electrical cabinet designs, schematics, network diagrams, controls algorithms, and safety systems for complex automation projects
- Lead troubleshooting, testing, commissioning, and system validation efforts
- Work closely with R&D, Sales Engineering, Commissioning, and external vendors to optimize system performance, support product testing, and resolve complex automation challenges
- Contribute to risk assessments, test plans, mechanical layout drawings, electrical calculations, cable routing specifications, and UL-compliant cabinet design standards
- Support programming and communication of pallet conveyance and pallet inspection equipment while ensuring successful system integration across customer sites throughout the U.S. and Canada
- Ideal candidates will have 7+ years of experience in controls and electrical engineering within custom automation or material handling environments, along with strong PLC/HMI programming experience using Beckhoff, Siemens, Allen Bradley, or Rockwell platforms
- Experience with electrical infrastructure, controls hardware, safety systems, CAD/ePlan software, commissioning, and industrial automation troubleshooting is highly valued
