Senior Architectural Associate

About The Company

About The Role

  • Contribute to the design and layout of new buildings, expansions, major/minor renovations, and conversion projects relating to retail stores, restaurants, commercial, industrial, and residential buildings
  • Provide “best in class” design, planning and technical support, to meet client’s expectations
  • Assist in the development of conceptual floor plans, elevations, decor, requirement drawings, details, and notes in conjunction with the Manager and Lead, Design Consultants, Engineers and Architects, and Clients
  • Provide support to the team members during the projects and ensures that both Greystone and clients’ design standards are adhered to in all aspects of the position with emphasis on high value and functionality

Responsibilities

  • Ensure a complete project drawings file, both hard copy and electronic copy are maintained on the design phase of any given project
  • Conduct site audits and transfer as-built information onto layouts
  • Assist on preparing specialty projects such as Network Nights, Trade Shows, and Equipment Specification Reviews, etc.
  • Required to perform minor/major changes and updating of drawings on AutoCAD, make drawing prints
  • Responsible for maintaining client equipment catalogue library. Organization and updating as required
  • Anticipate and/or minimize potential problems by maintaining current knowledge of assigned projects
  • Attend meetings as required with the Lead or Manager with regards to planning
  • Assist the Lead / Manager in maintaining standard details, equipment specifications and related documents
  • Ensure that all assigned tasks, timesheets, expense sheets and report requirements are fulfilled
  • Contribute to coordination of all consultants required to produce design and working drawings
  • Identify to Management any new ideas, opportunities, and initiatives for cost savings
  • Keep the Lead / Manager advised of conditions affecting projects existing and corrective action taken or performed Attend meetings as required in the absences of the Lead / Manager with regards to planning with client
  • Remain alert to regulations and directives that might affect the design of projects
  • Support the Lead / Manager in mentoring and training intermediate / junior staff

Minimum Requirements:

  • Minimum requirement is a diploma in Architecture or Engineering Technology or related construction interior field
  • 4-7 years of relevant experience
  • AutoCAD and REVIT training, drawing skills in current AutoCAD and REVIT release
  • Excellent communications and interpersonal skills, both written and verbal
  • Working knowledge of Municipal by-laws, building codes and/or construction detailing is required
  • Good time management skills and the ability to work under stress and time constraints on multiple tasks and projects
  • Experience in producing conceptual layouts, plans, elevations, and site plans
  • Ability to read and understand blueprints / plans / surveys
  • Experienced in contract/construction administration
  • Strong work ethic, organizational skills, attention to details and ability to work independently
  • Comfortable with infrequent on-site requirements
  • Familiarity with Architectural, Mechanical, Electrical and Structural drawings
  • Understanding of the Tendering Process and CCDC Documentation
  • The ability to lead projects with minimal supervision, and coordinate consultants
  • High level of design and construction industry knowledge and experience is essential


Ideal Additional Qualifications:

  • Direct industry experience within Retail, Food Service, or Commercial Real estate
  • Ability to provide leadership and guidance to the design team
  • 6-8 years of experience as a technologist in an Architectural firm
  • Experience with additional software such as Photoshop and Sketchup
