Position Title:
Special Projects Client Representative / Preconstruction Manager (Hybrid Role)
The Opportunity
This role represents a rare chance to step directly into the center of complex, high‑tech project development—work that shapes aerospace advancements, cutting‑edge cleanrooms, pharmaceutical and biotech facilities, specialized hydronics systems, and mission‑critical mechanical infrastructure.
The individual stepping into this position will influence projects from conceptual engineering through client engagement and into execution handoff. This is not a siloed role—it's a seat at the table during early design thinking, client strategy, and the shaping of technical scope. You will drive clarity, create alignment, and provide leadership on projects that are anything but ordinary.
Because the team is currently undergoing generational transition—retirements, internal promotions, and shifts toward more technical roles—this hire will have immediate and meaningful organizational impact. The group is striving to stay ahead of upcoming workload while maintaining high standards across high‑tech markets. The right individual can quickly become indispensable to ensuring continuity, elevating client experience, and stabilizing capacity during a volatile talent period.
This is an opportunity to step into a role where your contributions shape not only individual projects, but the future trajectory of the entire special projects and preconstruction function.
The Company
The organization operates in some of the most technical and compelling construction and engineering environments available today. Rather than working on commodity commercial interiors, this team executes high‑stakes, highly engineered mechanical and MEP‑driven projects for industries where precision is essential.
The work spans aerospace cleanrooms, healthcare, advanced manufacturing, high‑purity gas distribution, complex HVAC/hydronics, and other cutting‑edge systems. Team members consistently remark on how uniquely engaging and impactful these projects are—projects you can point to years later and say: “I helped build that.”
Clients rely on this team because of its deep technical expertise, its ability to act as an extension of the builder or GC when needed, and its consistent track record of delivering in environments where failure is not an option.
The Boss
The role reports to a leader who oversees a growing portfolio of high‑tech special projects and preconstruction activity. This leader values transparency, appreciates proactive communication from recruiting partners, and is committed to managing a team with both seasoned professionals and emerging talent.
He is realistic about the difficulty of this search and highly invested in bringing in the right person—someone who can integrate into a strong technical culture, interact effectively with clients, and build trust quickly. He is also navigating internal transitions, succession planning, and evolving customer demands, making this hire both urgent and strategically critical.
The Position
This hybrid role blends the responsibilities of:
- Special Projects Client Representative
- Preconstruction Manager
- Project Engineer (PE2 / PE3 track)
Depending on experience, candidates may land anywhere along this hybrid spectrum. The work includes:
- Leading or supporting client engagement throughout the full project lifecycle
- Developing conceptual designs and budgets for complex mechanical and MEP systems
- Supporting or managing estimating, proposal development, and early‑phase design narratives
- Collaborating with engineering, project management, and field teams to transition concepts into execution
- Presenting technical scope, design logic, and coordination strategies directly to clients
- Managing submittals, scope packages, subcontractor coordination, and technical documentation
- Working hands‑on with high‑tech hydronics, HVAC, cleanroom environments, specialty piping, and high‑purity systems
For individuals earlier in their career, the PE2/PE3 development path can progress into Client Representative or Preconstruction roles within 12–24 months, assuming strong performance.
Essential Functions (Other duties may be assigned)
- Serve as a primary point of contact for clients across all phases of the project lifecycle
- Produce conceptual system designs, early budgets, and preliminary engineering packages
- Prepare proposals, estimates, and preconstruction planning deliverables
- Coordinate internal teams and support seamless project handoff
- Deliver client presentations, design narratives, and technical briefings
- Oversee or support submittal packages, scope definition, and subcontractor coordination
- Contribute technical expertise on high‑tech mechanical and MEP systems

- Experience in high‑purity, aerospace, semiconductor, biopharma, cleanroom, or healthcare environments
- Background in estimating, conceptual budgeting, or engineering design
- Experience transitioning between engineering and construction settings
Education and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree (technical discipline required)
- 2–10 years of industry experience depending on landing point within the hybrid structure
- Career paths are available for junior, mid‑level, and senior candidates within Special Projects, Preconstruction, or PE tracks
