Position Overview:
The Bank is seeking a seasoned Special Assets Officer to join its credit team. This individual will be responsible for managing a portfolio of criticized and classified loans, with a focus on maximizing recovery while maintaining strong customer relationships. The role requires deep knowledge across multiple lending areas, including SBA, Commercial Real Estate (CRE), Commercial & Industrial (C&I), and Agricultural lending (preferred).

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage a portfolio of criticized, classified, and non-performing loans.

  • Develop and implement workout strategies, including restructures, forbearances, and repayment plans.

  • Monitor collateral positions, borrower performance, and covenant compliance.

  • Collaborate with lenders, credit administration, and senior management to mitigate risk while preserving customer relationships.

  • Negotiate with borrowers and third parties (attorneys, accountants, SBA representatives, etc.) to achieve mutually beneficial solutions.

  • Prepare reports and updates for loan committees and regulators as required.

  • Provide expertise in SBA, CRE, C&I, and Agricultural credits, with the ability to navigate complex loan structures.

  • Ensure compliance with all regulatory requirements, internal policies, and industry best practices.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Business, or related field.

  • Minimum of 5–7 years of experience in loan workout, special assets, or credit risk management.

  • Strong knowledge of SBA programs and regulations; expertise in CRE, C&I, and Agricultural lending preferred.

  • Proven ability to manage complex borrower relationships with professionalism and tact.

  • Exceptional analytical, negotiation, and problem-solving skills.

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills; ability to present findings to senior leadership.
