Software Development Manager (j2ee)
This is a critical senior level management opportunity within our client's growing IT team. Our ideal candidate would be a proven leader who is passionate about people management and has the ability to effectively lead a team of 35 people made of up Solutions Developers, Designers and Technical Team Leads. While a solid technical understanding is required for this position (preferably within Distributed Technology) the real focus of this position is hands on leadership.
This position will report functionally to the Director, Application Practices, and has accountability for the Distributed Technologies domain. Application Practices' mandate is to provide skilled, knowledgeable people and effective practices to delivery areas.
Your solid leadership abilities combined with your technical expertise will allow you to be successful in this position. Respected by others for both your demonstrated leadership skills and technical knowledge, you will model the vision and the culture of the ITS department, inspiring and influencing others to achieve results.
As the Manager, Distributed Technologies, you will be accountable for the people and practices associated with the design, development, and maintenance of business applications based on distributed technologies. These include the J2EE framework, Java, IBM's WebSphere family, and various third party tools.
Specific Responsibilities:
* Providing effective practices to guide people as they deliver solutions
* Ensuring defined practices meet corporate and customer needs
* Ensuring the work force meets corporate and customer needs
* Providing skilled and knowledgeable people to delivery areas
* Ensuring that people are engaged and informed
* Developing existing people to meet delivery needs
* Acquiring new people to meet delivery demand
* Providing day-to-day coaching and development to team members

* Proven ability to work within a fast-paced environment, prioritizing and juggling multiple competing demands to effectively meet delivery needs
Qualifications:
* 10+ years of IT related experience is required with direct experience in the related technologies and/or disciplines
* 5-10 years experience in a leadership position with total accountably for the day-to-day people management of a large number of direct reports
* Completed university degree or college diploma is required
* Experience working in a start-up environment would be considered an asset as the ability to live with and clarify ambiguity is often required
* Previous experience building successful teams is highly regard
