Construction Site Superintendent - Sewers and Watermains

Summary:

The Site Superintendent – Sewers & Watermains is responsible for leading the day-to-day field operations on municipal infrastructure projects, specifically sewer, watermain, storm drainage, and related underground utility installations. This role ensures safe, efficient, and high-quality execution of all site activities in compliance with contract documents, engineering specifications, and applicable safety standards. The Superintendent manages site crews, subcontractors, equipment, and materials to achieve project milestones on time and within budget.

This position reports directly to the Construction Manager, BC Division.

Location: Job Site located across the Lower Mainland Area.

Hours of Operations: 7:00 am to 5:00 pm

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

• Supervise and coordinate all phases of sewer, watermain, and storm infrastructure projects from site setup through commissioning.
• Schedule and direct crew activities for excavation, trenching, pipe installation, manhole and catch basin placements, and connection tie-ins.
• Verify elevations, alignments, and grades to ensure installation per design drawings and municipal specifications.
• Oversee subcontractor and equipment operations; ensure compliance with company safety and quality standards.
• Conduct daily toolbox talks and enforce site-specific safety procedures and environmental requirements.
• Maintain accurate daily logs, inspection reports, and health and safety documentation.
• Work closely with the Project Manager and Project Coordinator to plan manpower, equipment utilization, and production targets.
• Coordinate materials delivery and ensure proper handling, inspection, and installation of pipes, fittings, and valves.
• Recommend field solutions for design conflicts, unforeseen site conditions, or utility interferences.
• Liaise with consultants, inspectors, and municipal representatives to ensure quality control and regulatory compliance.
• Attend progress meetings and contribute to project reporting and cost tracking.
• Support continuous improvement initiatives and mentor junior site personnel.

Requirements:

• Civil Engineering or Construction Management degree, or equivalent field experience.
• Minimum 5 years of supervisory experience specifically in sewer, watermain, and storm infrastructure construction.
• Proven leadership ability managing crews, subcontractors, and heavy civil field operations.
• Strong understanding of civil plans, profiles, and municipal utility standards.
• Proficient with Microsoft Office applications; familiarity with Procore or similar construction management software preferred.
• Excellent communication, documentation, and coordination skills.
• Valid Class 5 Driver’s License and reliable transportation.
• Demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities under tight timelines.
