Job Description
Our client, a well-established custom metal fabrication company in Painesville, is seeking an experienced Production Supervisor to lead a skilled team of welders, fabricators, and mechanics. This is an excellent opportunity for a hands-on leader who enjoys managing shop operations, driving quality and efficiency, and producing high-quality, custom-built products for a diverse client base.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and supervise shop personnel, including welders, fabricators, and mechanics.
- Plan and manage work schedules, assignments, and production sequences to meet deadlines and quality standards.
- Review blueprints and specifications for completeness and accuracy before production.
- Assign and track work orders to ensure timely completion of custom fabrication projects.
- Monitor and maintain steel and parts inventory; schedule trucking for galvanizing and powder coating.
- Coordinate in-house fabrication, maintenance, and repair projects across departments.
- Participate in interviewing, hiring, onboarding, and training new employees.
- Conduct performance evaluations and make compensation or employment recommendations.
- Schedule and lead monthly safety training sessions.
- Ensure compliance with company safety policies and regulatory requirements.
- Oversee preventive maintenance for shop equipment.
- Inspect work progress, tools, and machinery to verify safety and quality standards.
- Serve as a working leader, assisting in production and fabrication as needed.
Skills and Qualifications
- Strong knowledge of metals, welding, and fabrication processes, including operation of CNC plasma, brake press, rolls, and saws.
- Proven ability to plan, organize, and manage multiple custom projects simultaneously.
- Strong math and measurement skills.
- Proficient with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel) and basic production software tools.
- Effective leadership and team-building abilities with a focus on communication, motivation, and accountability.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Sound judgment and problem-solving skills.
Education and Experience
- High school diploma or GED required; some college or trade school training preferred.
- Minimum of 10 years of relevant fabrication or manufacturing experience, including prior supervisory experience.
Work Environment
- Shop-based role working near moving mechanical parts in varying heat and humidity.
- Regular use of safety equipment, including shoes, gloves, glasses, and hearing protection.
- Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs. frequently and up to 80 lbs. occasionally.
- Fast-paced environment requiring stamina, coordination, and attention to detail.
