The Sheet Metal Estimator Job is responsible for accurately calculating costs and preparing bids for sheet metal fabrication and installation projects. This includes evaluating project specifications, determining material and labor requirements, and collaborating with internal teams and vendors to create competitive proposals. The role supports the sales and project management teams by ensuring estimates align with project goals and profitability targets.
Key Responsibilities:
- Estimating and Bid Preparation:
- Analyze blueprints, drawings, and specifications to develop accurate estimates for sheet metal projects.
- Calculate material quantities, labor hours, and equipment needs for fabrication and installation.
- Prepare detailed cost breakdowns and bid proposals for submission.
- Project Analysis and Planning:
- Evaluate project requirements, such as ductwork, custom sheet metal fabrication, and structural components.
- Identify potential challenges and provide cost-effective solutions during the pre-construction phase.
- Assess labor efficiency and installation complexity to ensure accurate projections.
- Vendor and Subcontractor Coordination:
- Obtain quotes for raw materials, prefabricated components, and subcontracted work.
- Evaluate pricing and delivery schedules to ensure alignment with project timelines.
- Collaboration and Communication:
- Work closely with project managers, engineers, and sales teams to align estimates with project objectives.
- Communicate with clients to clarify project scope and address any concerns related to cost or execution.
- Documentation and Reporting:
- Maintain detailed records of estimates, assumptions, and exclusions.
- Provide post-project analysis to refine future estimating processes.
Qualifications:
- Education:
- High school diploma or equivalent (required).
- Associate’s or bachelor’s degree in construction management, engineering, or a related field (preferred).
- Experience:
- 3+ years of experience in estimating, sheet metal fabrication, or HVAC systems.
- Familiarity with sheet metal materials, fabrication techniques, and installation processes.
- Skills:
- Proficiency in estimating software (e.g., QuickBid, Bluebeam, or AutoCAD).
- Strong understanding of industry standards, such as SMACNA guidelines.
- Excellent analytical, mathematical, and problem-solving skills.
- Effective communication and organizational abilities.
