Sheet Metal Detailer
Summary Description:
Operate all computer aided design (CAD) systems provided by DDL and peripheral equipment such as printers and scanners, etc. Able to navigate preprogrammed material libraries to develop complete, buildable, and high quality contractor grade mechanical, plumbing, controls, and/or air conditioning systems spool and shop drawings.
Essential Functions:
- Perform routine to complex assignments requiring a thorough knowledge of computer aided drafting system standards, practices and techniques.
- Produce contractor grade drawings and plans.
- Turn contractor grade plans into parts and fabrication lists.
- Incorporate Design-Intent Models, contract documents and specifications, and the project team’s requests and expectations into visual detailing model that represent the intended mechanical, engineering and plumbing (MEP) for the project.
- Interface with responsible engineers, designers, other departments and suppliers to obtain expected results and use time efficiently.
- Prepare and incorporate Change Orders.
- Provide BIM design and drafting support to existing and new product programs.
- Understand and interpret architectural and structural details as they affect the MEP installations.
- Identify interferences with the architectural structural and other MEP elements.
- Detail sections of the model.
- Generate contract and internal company deliverables from models including tagging, dimensioning and generating fabrication spools and tickets.
- Apply practical dimensioning and tolerance techniques on part form, fit and function. Ensure there are no adverse tolerance build ups. Complete tolerance analysis studies.
- Assists with design modifications to facilitate manufacturing operation or improve quality of product.
- Apply judgment and make decisions with respect to drawings and input interpretation.
- Calculate figures to convert design dimensions to resizing dimensions specified for subsequent production processes.
- Maintains BIM models, drawings and associated files in the data management system per company procedures.
- Review work performed to determine accuracy with input from supervisor.
- Comply with all Company rules, policies and standards.
- Comply with all Company safety rules, policies and standards.
- Come to work on time and as scheduled.
Knowledge of Software Required
AutoCAD, AutoCAD MEP, Revit MEP, Navisworks, MS Office.
Education & Experience
Associate degree in drafting, architecture, engineering or related field – helpful but not required. Bachelor’s degree in Computer Technology or Mechanical Engineering – helpful but not required.
2 years detailing experience and field experience preferred – but not required.
